Commuting On A Baghira

I commute 120 miles a day to and from work using (currently) either my GSX 1100F or my 600 Diversion-neither are too exhilerating.

I bought the Baggy as I thought it would be a fun commuter for spring/summer and autumn. 10 days ago I put the Baggy into full time commuter mode, corresponding with the torrential rain.

1200 miles later, I can still walk properly, shoulders and neck are fine, so comfort is not an issue.

It cruises nicely at an indicated 90 mph-100 mph down the 50 miles of motorway. Only problem is is that other bikes do NOT like being over taken by a supermoto, let alone an MZ.

Inner City riding for the other 15 miles is superb-high enough to see over most cars, and through most van windows. Mirrors are a little high (same as Transit mirrors) so i have removed them-still cannot find a decemnt, lower, replacement.

And the other 5 miles is B roads-ideal in the morning to gently warm the bike up, and a real blast on the way home.

Fuel consumption-an unbelievable average of 76 mpg (yep, 76 mpg).

Bike has performed faultlessly (as it should with just 1750 miles on it.

The rear tyre is very worn (but still legal) and has flatted badly. Plan to replace it soon with a dual compound Bridgestone, or if I can get another rear wheel, a Michelin Macadam for commuting on one, and a Maxxis Silver on the other.

And little weather protection-something the GSX excels at. Handlebar muffs on a Supermoto? Someone has to do it!

hello
sounds like you like the bike

are your english gallons still 1and 1/8 us gallon
or have they changed that
as my rt125 does 70 mpg in us gallons
the saxon tour about 50mpg it has a bing cv carb that is a piece of trash
and will soon be replaced with a delortho
bing is the one thing i never liked about my bmw bikes

I use my Baggi for comuting every day, in all weatheres exept ice as some of the roads I use are not salted in winter. Have a look at a set of cheap hand protectors like those used on Motorcrossers. They are cheap and help to keep the wind and rain off of your hands.

70 plus to the gallon?? How do you do it?? I am quite pleased with mine at 60 ish to a gallon. Wouldn't mind a few more mpgs though :-D

70 MPG,, blimey thats rather impresive. I'm only geting 40 to 50, must be those big jets I chucked in there :shock:

I am one of those sad people who record every thing to work out running costs and I was suprised at the MPG quoted as well, my mpg varies between 39 and 57mpg averaging out at 49.5mpg over 40,000kms.
BTW what are you guys (and girls) getting out of a rear tyre, mine tend to need replacing every 2500 miles and I am hoping to get about 1000 miles out of teh Avon Pro extreme wets I currently have fitted.

By all means feel free to post the piccy. In my defence the tire only had about 1.5mm of tread left anyway and it seemed like a good idea at teh time.

Checked my figures again-78.4 mpg Imperial gallons, not US ones)-recalculated a number of times, so I know it is right.

The bike was run in as per my usual methods. Currently running standard pipe, carbs etc.

Use it on mostly motorway at indicated 90-100. The rear tyre is shot now (2000 kms) and if I get my spare wheel soon, Macadam for commuting, Maxxis for fun.

post a note on the speedo which tire is installed
so you dont forget and break rule number 1

MPG or KmPG?

All the talk of miles per gallon reminds me of my early days on my 500 Rotax. I was coming up with ~70 mpg as I calculated until it dawned on me that my 25 mile commute was rolling over 40 ticks on the odometer. Once I realized that I was getting 70 KmPG, it brought my mileage down to a quite reasonable 45 or so MPG. I used to have a 50 cc moped that got 60+, so it was hard for me to comprehend that kind of mileage on the MZ.

Ahem....slight miscalculation by a complete moron!.

My excel spreadsheets are for miles. The speedo records kms.

So that's 78 KMS per imperial gallon.

Sometimes I cannot believe just how much of a muppet I am.
