Leaky Valve on the Oil Filter Cover

I stripped my oil filter cover's top valve screw, so I put in a helicoil to repair the threading. It threads perfectly and I still have my original washer, but I'm still experiencing a bit of a weeping leak around the top of the valve. Any suggestions for stopping such a leak short of replacing my oil filter cover?

Err, right, I suppose I should have mentioned that I already tried that. The new washer actually made the leak seem a bit worse, so I switched back to the original, which seems to be in perfect condition, but the screw keeps on weeping. On a positive note, my right boot is now very shiny. Today, a guy at work asked me why I was wearing one new boot and one old boot.

Locktite 518. It will stop the leak .It wont set hard .Put it on the SHANK of the bolt , just under the washer .

Thanks, it looks like that locktite did the job. I was a bit apprehensive to put locktite so near my oil, but so far so good.

Providing you`ve put it exactly where I said , it will never come in contact with the circulating oil.That 518 is the best stuff known to man i reckon , I`ve put leaky Norton crankcases togther , gearboxes , rocker covers ,and NEVER had another leak from the same place .I dont use gaskets , but I do pay particular attention to the mating faces and ensure they`re cleaned with solvent before I apply a tiny bead of the 518 to one face only . Loctite 510 is good as well and will tolerate higher internal pressures , more suited to industrial situations for joint sealing of pressure parts . The best thing is ,,,,,,IT NEVER SETS HARD .Regards Rossco

I normally do not use gaskets, either. And of course, the XTZ engine has joints that do not have gaskets to start with.
This will not contaminate the oil in any way. And it does not harden. YOu can even "make" that missing O-Ring with it. A typical place with our engine is that dainty O-Ring on the water pump.
