CRASH!!! Need help replacing Scorpion parts please.

Postby J-Ball » Tue Jul 22, 2008 12:39 am

So it happend. After going for a nice long very safe ride with a buddy of mine, 2 blocks from home I hit gravel in a turn and lost it. No big deal really, just some busted parts on an otherwise beautiful bike. I know most likely parts won't be availible from MZ, I hope to find out what bikes these parts come off of and source them from there. Any help locating parts would be VERY appreciated. The bike; 2000 Skorpion Tour. He's what I'm looking at;

1. Metal bracket that holds rear brake pedal / right side foot peg, looks like it's cast aluminum, perhaps can be welded.

2. Tach housing. Tach works but the housing is busted and the chrome ring at the top of the housing is dented. (interested in swapping all out for a digital all-in-one such as a trail tech vapor etc.)

3. Mirror and brake lever.

Other wise the pipe is scratched with a few little dings, the headlight rim is dented and the bar end and front turn signals got scuffed. I think the headlight is from a BMW air head, might can find one of those. Any one know where those signals are sourced from?

Me... Oh I'm fine, freakin' mad at myself as can be but fine. A scuffed arm, busted cell phone and ripped my favorite pants but already itching to get back on the horse. And yes I've learned my lesson, a rookie mistake. All compounded by running on a back tire that's super slick. And to think I was planning on ordering new tires tomorow. Thanks for any help. Keep 'er right side up!

http://www.grahamsmotorcycles.com
should be parts book on the site for download

fix it right these bikes will soon reach collector status
and it will grow in value slowly if it original and nice
and the lever is common to mz only and grahams is one of the places that will have them

Thanks for the info Dave. I checked their site, they do have the levers, signals etc. No foot peg / brake lever bracket or tacho parts unfortunately. I sure thought the mirrors and levers were KTM products and therefore probably cheaper to find here in the states. The search continues.

Just got this in an email from Grahams. Thought I'd post it for others to see.

MZ3425024000 RH FOOTREST BRACKET £51.81 ( $100.00 approx ) in stock

MZ9013095000 FOOTREST £51.81 ( $100.00 approx ) in stock

MZ9014344000 TACHO £88.58 ( $160.00 approx ) in stock

MZ9014343000 TACHO HOUSING £17.27 ( $35.00 approx ) no stock 1 week

This is going to turn out to be a pricy spill, but it could have been much worse. I'm sure the footrest and footrest bracket come off of some other bike like a KTM or something, those aren't MZ only parts are they?

Is it total sacralidge to put a digital spedo/tach on a Tour? I've got to admit I'm more into rideability than collectability. In fact my plans are to put some enduro tires on this thing and it's going to rack up the miles as my daily commuter. I see lots of dirt county roads with some nasty bumps, seems like the digital wouldn't shake and rattle as much as the current tach and speedo.

Hi, Had similar damage to my Tour.
Hand brake lever is the same as a Kawasaki KL250(not sure what model I went to the dealer and just looked through their stock).
Tacho and case looks the same as some of the Yamaha Viragos (XV1100), maybe worth checking if
mz not availble.Managed to glue my Tacho case back together, only required a new chrome cover and bought a spare Speedo cover and Tacho cover.
Peg Bracket ? Sould be able to be welded. If not contact a local machine shop to fabricate one from billet. Very hard to get replacement parts here in Oz, so I make most of my own when required. I've got a drawing of the brackets nearly done and will then create an NC program to mill some spares.
Good luck with your repairs. Russell.

I got a front brake lever and right side mirror for a Skorpion in front of me. The lever is new, I used to carry it in my tankbag on long trips as a spare. It has some minor nicks in the paint from bouncing around in the tankbag. The mirror is used but in fine condition. I'll sell you both items for $40 INCLUDING USPS Priority shipping costs. You can see that they would cost 40 POUNDS plus shipping from Grahams. The email address associated with my paypal account is demark19702@yahoo.com put the money in the account and supply me with an address and I will ship immediately, might even throw something extra in.....
