Sounds like you got a short some where. Not to clear, do fuses blow when you turn on the ignition or when you press the starter switch?

a little more precise, less telegramatic would help.
Assuming it does what you seem to be saying: to blow both fuses when you press the starter button, it could be the starter relay (#14 on wiring diagram). Unplug that and test.
It could be the stop relay, #19.
It could be a short cicuit between the handlebar switch and the bars. Happens quite often. Remove the switch from the bars and test. If so, wrap the bar with tape and put it back on.
It could be the rectifier #16.
It could be the harness itself.
Has been one or all of these on other bikes.
Some of this stuff has just recently been discussed:

There is bound to be more; use the search. That's what it is for.

NoPants, yea, that happened to me too. I heard the Germans commonly use a brown wire for the negative terminal (looks red) and black for positive, while in the US it's red for positive and black for negative.

On my 1958 BMW both battery cables are black, and the entire system is 6 volts. The wiring is so simple that it spoils me for modern bikes.

this is the original MuZ wiring harness diagram. Main plus battery lead to fuse is red. There is also a thin black(sw=schwarz) wire going to the plus connector of the starter relais spool.
Main minus battery lead is brown (br=braun) leading to a central ground connection in the harness and the heavy black cable leading to the engine block.

can't see tha there is anything confusing or backwards about that. I have never run into red on minus on an MZ, either, and I have seen quite a few.

Nothing as freaky as plus on ground like the old brit bikes had.

Bill, I dragged out the wiring diagram that came with my '99 Sport Cup. My diagram has only "sw" for the two plus (+) leads, for schwarz/black. The negative (-) lead is marked 'br" for brown. The diagram is marked "Wiring Diagram USA."

I suspect that the wiring was changed for the American version of the bike. The irony is that Americans would have less trouble with the European version (red and brown) than with the MZ "American version" (brownish-red and black, in reversed positions).
