Mods to standard Skorpion tour exhaust?

Postby nickst4 » Tue Nov 04, 2008 2:13 am

I can't see anything on this subject, but it must surely have come up before. The exhaust on my Tour looks fine, but the sound is definitely on the stifled side. Has anyone done anything cheap to liberate The Thump? Like sticking a long drill up its chuff and making holes in anything you can reach?

Cheers,

Hi,
don't mess with the original muffler/exhaust system. It is heavy but it is good. In fact it is so good that most of the aftermarket "tuning mufflers" deliver less operformnce than the original can. I have had it on the horsepower brake and know what I am talking about. If you screw around with it you will ruin it and they are no longer made. If you must have noise instead of performance get a Holeshot if you are in the States or a BSM Future if you are in Europe. Look good, are light and are LOUD! At least the BSM is down 3 or 4 HP on the OEM Lehnart & Wagner. I ran the BSM myself on my on Tour but with a one-off system:

I had this bike on the brake with a BOS can mated to the one-off exhaust system and it delivered 59HP at the rear wheel. changing to the OEM can, the motor delivered 58HP, down exactly one HP. That is how good that can is. The BSM was down 5HP.
the BSM is legal in Germany, the BOS is not mounted on the MZ.
and I am running the self-same BSM can on my Yamaha right now:

but not much longer:I am getting a really good can from SR Racing, befitting the Termigoni racing system the Yamaha has.
The last stage of the Tour was with a Remus racing system:

Like the Termignoni, this has larger header pipes and so a freer can does actually gain some HP.

But back to the OEM L&W can: leave it be, you won't get it louder unless you ruin it and then the power will be way down as well: loud and limp.

just came in the German Skorpion Forum:
Ich habe heute noch einmal den Dale Parker Holeshot Street mit 188er Hauptdüse getestet aber er hat spürbar weniger Leistung als der Seriendämpfer (meiner hat keinen Kat mehr). Dafür brauche ich auch keinen Prüfstand. Es kommt nix mehr ab 6000 U/min.

towit: "Today I tried Dale Walker's Holeshot Street together with a 188 main jet. It has noticably less umpf than the stock can, so much so , that I don't need a brake to test it. Above 6000 nothing."

As if I had asked. Another reason to leave the stock can alone.

my rt125 has basically the same tuning problem ...
.any thing i do to it just makes it slower and use more fuel
unless you spend so much money on it you could have just bought a bigger bike ....and keep the old one

Heh, Guys
Thanks for the advice re leaving the can as it is: as a group, you have my respect already! I'm sure I shall find plenty of other stuff to play with on this bike.
I went out on it for the second time yesterday, and you know the way you worry that maybe it wouldn't be so good as the day you actually bought it? No worries, I loved it and thought it was smoother than I remembered. My other rides are vee-twins, two of them 90degree types which are reckoned to be pretty smooth, but the Skorpion is entirely acceptable. The ProGrip Enduro 714 grips I put on at the w/e help, especially with reducing throttle-hand cramp. Highly recommended, I buy them in bulk!
Now to work on finding that redhead David mentioned....
