MZ is not quite yet officially sold.... yet

On Monday the representatives of hong leong (current/previous owners) arrive in Germany to agree the purchase and sign the papers. It looks like the new owners have the money and "paid" (at least put the funds into escrow) for the company.

for those of you who do not know the new owners are Ralf Waldmann (20 times motogp winner) and Martin Wimmer (ex motogp rider) and his wife.

the proposal is to assemble motorcycles 125cc and scooters from Chinese parts In Zschopau while there is a company already set-up by Wimmer in China to oversee the production and quality of parts manufacturing. Plans seem to include a return to the enduro class (125 and possibly 250 cc) and perhaps if the company can make a profit a continuation of the 1000 series.

The final decision still rests with Steve Yap and Hong Leong. but they wouldn't send someone back to Germany to reject the purchase would they.

Hmmmm, all convoluted stuff! :? :? :?

Let's hope the deal goes through and this company rides out the depression. I'd certainly like to see more from this innovative factory - and preferably NOT Chinese. If the 1000's anything to go by, they could produce some exciting bikes for the future.

Yeah ... hope MZ will revive.

as from what I read few weeks ago .. ::

MZ Motorcycles Coming Back?

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on 4/1/2009

in China, Motorcycle Business

"MZ Motorcycles coming back"
Ralf Waldmann and Martin Wimmer, 2 former motorcycle GP racers, are planning to revive production of MZ motorcycles which, as we reported, ceased operations at the end of last year. They are buying the trademarks and worldwide rights to the brand from the Hong Leong Group which currently owns MZ.

The old German factory is now a nightclub, MZWerk, so Waldmann and Wimmer plan to work with a Chinese company to produce the bikes. Martin Wimmer has lived in China and evidently has good connections there.

According to the racers, they want to begin by producing a new 125cc model similar to the old MZ RT125 and eventually expand with models up to 500cc.\

THIS IS THE FOLLOW UP ::

hot news

2009 Former GP stars Ralf Waldmann and Martin Wimmer buy the MZ motorcycle brand. The deal went through on 23rd March 2009 for a reported four or five million Euros. The cash is being put up by the Hong Leong Group. The new board will consist Ralph Waldmann, Martin Wimmer, Dr Martin Hager, Helmut Lichtenberg and Otto Elbers. Wimmer will take over the role of MZ Managing Director with immediate effect. There are rumours that the firm is going to produce a 600cc road bike based on the Moto2 GP project bike
