Minor drop; broke the tach cover

Well, I managed to drop it within 24 hours of finally getting it. I wonder if that's a record. Not so bad, actually. Dropped it on the right side, scuffed the exhaust, the front right fork, and managed to pop the cover off the tach. It sucks that I was two blocks from home, but that's probably why I was distracted, and tired from my first 'real' ride. (The tach cover popped when it touched the curb on the way down.)

Popping the cover is no big deal, but the problem is that the plastic post on the tach that the cover screws to is what broke loose. The tach still seems to work work just fine. Is it reasonable to superglue the plastic post back on and hope that water doesn't get into the tach and that it doesn't rattle loose, or should I get a new tach housing (probably somewhat expensive)?

Drop and first ride nerves aside it was a lot of fun!

in 1966 with 3days and 175 miles on it
after 8 years and about 40,000 miles exp on 3 other bikes

we all fall down we just should not do it to often
it hurts too much .... ouch or $$$$ or both

congratulations! BUT HOW DID IT RUN???

you can carefully glue that tach post back using a good cyanoacrylate gel, I highly recommend the one made by Loctite called "454 Surface Insensitive Gel". Let it set good and reassemble.

Seal any areas that look like water could be forced in using a teeny bit of liquid rubber. don't use superglue in case you ever need to open it again!

It ran just fine! Seriously. It's a bit like riding a really cool lawnmower (phut phut phut phutphutphut) but it's nice. Just in case I didn't mention it enough, I'm still a total newbie at the motorcycle thing, so I can't really compare it with anything save the 250 at the MSF, but I like it a lot. Mostly I'm disappointed at my own riding skills but it's early days yet. As far as does it run, does everything work, etc. it's all good. My only complaint is that it's a real pain to cancel the turn signals, but other than that, it's a damn fine bike.

Now, all I need is a break in the weather and about thirty hours on the bike, and things should improve. Thanks for the tip on the adhesive.

Yes, that worked much better. Finally got my second ride on the bike (rain most of last week, and busy yesterday while the epoxy on the tach cover post dried). Lots of fun. Pretty vibey, but I'll get used to it.
