Hi, My name is Ken and I'm a bikeaholic.
It has been 3 days since I bought my last motorcycle - a 1977 MZ TS250. I live in Surrey in the UK, but I see that a lot of you fellow MZ riders live in North America. I'd like to say a quick "Hi" to the guy who lives in Hampshire - a county that borders Surrey - "Hi".
I didn't pay a lot for my MZ - a solitary purple English banknote, and I got a piggy-bank's worth of change back as well! The engine is seized - apparently from standing in a backyard for 5 years, but I'm not too worried as the bike came with a spare set of crank casings, two barrels, heads and pistons and a couple of buckets of bits and pieces...
I suppose the first thing to would be to pour a couple of ounces of diesel fuel or WD40 through the spark plug hole and leave it to sit for a few days to see if it frees up - but then what? clean the carb, install a battery and see if it will start?
I like the "quirky" looks of the bike, it's monstrous tank, oversize headlamp and chunky foot rests... I can't wait to get it on the road! I have read that this model is well balanced and smooth, reliable and strong. Apparently some were fitted with sidecars...
I have a few other bikes from the 1960s, 1970s and later (including 2-strokes (2-cycle to you guys from across the pond - I understand theTransatlantic lingo because I lived in Canada for 20 years)) ranging from 49cc to 883cc; I also have 4 vintage petrol (gas) pumps I'm restoring, a ragged 1956 Wolseley and a 1966 Austin A35 van...
Anyway, that's a bit about me, so it would be good to connect with any like-minded bikaholics and petrolheads in the UK and beyond...
"ta-ta" for now...
