Sprockets and chain

I've been thinking about treating my Baggy to new sprockets and chain.. My current sprockets look ok but the chain is at maximum adjust..and i guess its best to put a whole new set on... What i wanted to ask is... what is the ratio between the sprockets and what are the pro's and con's of going up (or down) on teeth?
I havent got around to counting the teeth that are on at the moment but I guess its a standard set.

I replaced the chain and sprockets on my baggy last year, the original sizes where 15/43 but I found that the bike didn't pull so well in top so I put on 15/45 after a bit of playing with ratios.I did try 14/45 but this just made the bike rev it's nuts off and was rubbish in first and second gear.

I also replaced the end can with a bsm and a home made baffle, the bike now pulls like a steam train right up to the ton ( on a private road of course!) and I'm still getting 50+mpg, the bike now feels right as if everything is working well together
,not like before when it was like the bike was bogging down and the engine was choked especialy when going up long steady gradients.

The best place if found for the c+s kit was wemoto, they have a great selection of kits and all the relevant info needed to help you online.

Make sure you check the number of links if you order from Wemoto. The one they supplied me as standard was to short. They replaced it happily enough but it all took time in the post.

don't want to throw sticks in the spokes but 100mph with 15/45 would mean 7500rpm. Of course the engine with the original ignition box won't even turn that fast: 7200 is all there is, regardless of what the Tach might show.
The motor will turn over 8000 with a proper box, so the ton would theorectically be possible.
I turn my SZR engine over 8500 in the lower gears and do this on a regular basis.

Sorry :oops: Bill is right, I should have said "indicated ton" as the speedo is a bit hopefull, but I have seen it well over this mark on a couple of occasions but the bike did feel ready to pop!

By the way Bill do you have any idea how inacurate the speedo is, as I pass a couple of speed signs near home that show your speed as you pass but they always seem right by my speedo, but that is at only 40 mph, maybe the clock gets a bit more hopefull the faster you go!

sorry, no, I don't but if the Skorpions are anything to go by, it is a pretty big error. Of course at slow speeds it is proportionally less.
I just took a Program (GearData) and let it figure out. Since the late ninetie I have been using a DET100 which is exact - as exact as you set it up at least. Of course there are others just as exact, starting with a Sigma bike speedo. None of the mechanical speedos can be exact.

I was thinking about replacing mine as well! What bike should i order them for? I know if I go to the parts counter and ask for Black Panther sprockets i'm going to get a funny look. How many links for the chain? I want to keep it Stock.
If it bleeds for a week and doesnt die....Dont' trust it!
