Baggy wheels..aftermarket? Where to get spare 17's?

Postby CasterTroy » Thu Mar 04, 2010 3:37 pm

This past year I did several track days on my Baggy.....had a great time....but I think this year I want to go with slicks for improved times. But I still want to run my baggy on the road for hooliganism opportunities.

Does ANYONE make aftermarket wheels? What fits?

OR

Where would be the best bet to find a spare set of 17" wheels?

Does anyone have these on the shelf for sale? (long shot and more than I bet I'm willing to pay)

If you cant get MZ 17's then keep an eye open for some second hand Yammie wheels. I cant remember the model (search the forum as it has definately been mentioned here) but our hubs are Yammie parts and they are probably a lot easier to come by. Pass them to a wheel builder and part with the cash for a 17" rebuild and away you go!

You might find that somebody who supplies aftermarket wheels for motocross and supermoto using for example Talon hubs and Excel rims that could make some up to fit. Pretty expensive though.

Have you considered cast wheels off a Jap supersport 400? Tyre sizes are typically the same as our bikes so they would probably fit with axles and spacers made up at an engineering shop....... and probably a caliper bracket. The wheels would be cheap but I guess the fitting might not be. You could run your slicks without tubes though.

Here's a set on Ebay. From past post the set of wheels cost about $1,000 so if this bike stays at $1,800 you get a spare bike for $800 :)
