Oil Leak

Postby sapperk9 » Fri Mar 19, 2010 3:30 am

I have an oil leak, only when running, right under the starter motor, its from the crankcase split, as far as I can tell. Any offers of solutions other than a complete motor tear down and reseal of crankcase halves? :cry:

Cheers...

couple of possibilities there but the joint of the crankcase is not at all probable.
1) crankcase vent hose, that black plastic hose about 1/2"Ø cracked or just very loose;
2) oiltank vent hose, in front of the above and about 3/8" Ø same problems;
3) Oil return line loose or its O-ring bad or both, it is under the starter towards the back, and is held by two M inbus screws.
4) to the right of the first item, there is a large black plastic plug in the crankcase. This has been known to crack or even to blow out.

While speaking of leaking hoses, MuZ did not use the best quality avaliable to say the least.
I highly recommend to check all hoses and especially those in contact with oil for cracks and replace if needed.

I had to replace most breather and oil lines when my -95 Skorpion was no more than 5 years old, first clue was a serious oil spill on my rear tire from the return line to the oil tank, could have ended in tears.

Thanks gents, I'll scrutinise the machine next week, the starter motor is off but I'm off to a birthday party for my Guzzi dealer on Sunday.
