New bike and need jetting help

I picked up a used Baghira a couple weeks ago in the Seattle area and rode to Wyoming using mostly dirt forest roads. The bike did great until I got into the high mountains and then it began running bad. I am averaging 18mpg now running above 5000 feet elevation and it is running rough. From what I hear there is limited jets for this carb setup. Is there any other adjustements that can help?

what area will you be running it in and does it have a stock pipe
and will you be above 5000foot asl but not over 10,000 asl very often

The bike is all stock. I will be at 5000 to 8500ft elevation.

5000-8500ft = 1500-2500mtrs.
1500 mtr is Blackforest or Vosges altitude.
nothing very high about that over here and no one quibbles about jetting for such.

All normal roads, I use the last two all the time, to stay away from the expressways like the url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brenner_Pass]Brenner[/url] or Gothard tunnel.I prefer to use the St.Bernadino whengoing to Milan:

Getting to the Reschenpass going to Italy (e.g. down to Bologna or frther to Pesaro), I like to take the Arlberg Pass im the summer months or the Silveretta Hochalpenstrasse:

no trees up here as you can see. Not very many cars, either.

As it is with "that" carb, only the left side might be a target. The right side is way too rich to start with.
Of course modern bikes with injection don't have any problems, but I don't have anything like that.

I live in Lauffen am Neckar, a wine growing river valley so the range the jetting has to cover is not that narrow. If you read thru the link, you'll see the engraving from Merian, ca 1640:

The corner building at teh foot of the wall and to the right of the bridge is my shop, i.e. part of the foundation and one wall of that building are still incorporated in the 1893 house that is my shop.

on the bmw r75/5 i had i went 1 main jet smaller when i got to Colorado Springs CO
and it worked good 4000 to 11,000 but starting it above 11,000 ft was coast it off the hill and bump start
it had CV bing carbs always had to park it close to exit on pikes peak as pushing it at that altitude
was a no no
check a yamaha shop that sell a lot of 660 raptors and see what they do to them
may have to get a couple very small jets and drill them out a size at a time
when you do sort it out post info here

I may have picked up some dirty gas along the way. There were a couple of questionable fuel stations in Montana's backways. So I will clean out the carbs and go from there. The plug was showing a rich mixture, maybe a hotter plug would help as well. Anyone tried the GYRT jets?

There is a thread here that tells which jets can be used. Also some information in the file attachment in the thread "MZ Baghira 660 - Tech Data, Specs, Parts".

@ Bill: Nice pic of the 230.6 :) I used to work with an old German (German+Polish), about 12 years ago, who told me very emphatically that the older Mercedes Benz engines were works of art, and he would like to have one on display in his living room, but since the late 1980's or 90's, they had changed, they were not so well-made.
