How many turns are you setting the pilot screw?

Postby billr » Fri Aug 06, 2010 9:33 am

Just had an episode of bogging down and poor throttle response...
Went down the list:
Good flow from the tank,
Checked the carbs, float valve filter looked like the lint trap on my dryer (wonder where all that crap came from?)...
All cleaned up, inline filter installed and it's running well again.

Question is on the pilot screw setting.
I counted the turns to closed (6.5) before I removed it for cleaning.
Put it back in that way.
Checking the manual (2.5 turns) and searching the forum (5-6.5 turns).

It's running and idling fine. I just don't want to cause any problems with it being too rich??

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
Shouldn't be a problem....many run 5-7 turns out..you may get exhaust overrun popping with 2.5 to 3...mine does..

Why not use a colortune kit

I've got one but I've not used it yet (bit difficult as you really need a dark garage)

Some people here talking about using one

If you try one let us know how it goes.

Thanks, just wanted to confirm what I read on the search.

Those were mentioned on another forum I frequent. Had a link to a video of one in use. Considered getting one, but not sure if I'd use it enough to justify...
Cool factor may win out, though...
