Just got a 2002 Bagharia

Postby harold » Tue Jun 28, 2011 8:47 pm

It only has 1,500 miles on it, but won't power wheelie even in 1st gear. I heard that this has the Raptor motor, which I had one that I rejetted, removed the airbox with straight K&N filters, and a homemade glass pack straight through muffler. It ran like a raped ape, and would start without the choke in 1/2 of a second even after sitting for a couple of weeks. 3rd gear power wheelies could be had by hitting the throttle at pretty much any RPM. It readlined at 70 mph, and I know this Baggie is geared to do over 100. The PO said he was measured at 120 with another sportbike next to him, and this bikes speedo was pegged. I believe the spockets are stock, and them and the chain look brand new, kind of like they should with only 1,500 miles. I think it needs a smaller front or larger rear sprocket. I don't need to go that fast on an enduro, but even with this gearing it should wheelie in 1st and I was hoping even in 3rd.

My questions are these after spending a couple of hours searching this website:
1. Where can I buy or download a manual?
2. What is the difference in this motor and a raptor, 2004 series? I have seen different carbs on this website for Skorpions, and assumed all MZ's with the 660 Yamaha were the same, but maybe not. There is a wealth of info on the raptor forums, but I don't know what is the difference.
3. It has a D&D slip on, which is quite loud, and appears to be a straight thru glass pack, with no packing probably. What is the stock jetting these bikes come with? It pops badly on deceleration, like the pilot jets are too small. I am willing to bet they never rejetted after putting the D&D on, and it is too lean. It seems to have good power, but no snap to pull the front wheel. At 65 mph in 5th it will pull, but no wheelies in 1st. Backing off the throttle at WFO doesn't change things, so the main jet seems OK, but I still would put a larger one in to see how that works.
4. Is the rev limiter different than the Raptor? I don't remember ever hitting it on my Raptor, but this bike hits it just as it is accelerating hard. That is not keeping it from wheelieing though, as the front wheel should already be waving the flag way down the RPM range from the limiter. I could deal with a lower rev limit, but is the CDI or something putting a different advance curve to this bike as well as a lower rev limit?

I am in FLorida, so basically no elevation, if someone else has one to suggest their jetting. I won't be riding in any serious dirt, mostly street, so I was planning on doing the same mods to the air filtration I did to my Raptor. I have welding and fabrication tools and ability.

Thanks in advance for any info. I always liked this motor, and look forward to making this thing jump like it never has.

Yeah.... mine isn't exactly a wheelie monster either. I posted every known manual for the baghira/mastif under the "baggie specs" thread. keep us posted with the airbox mod enjoy the bike...

I tore in to it last night. How is the air supposed to get into the airbox? It appears the seat seals it on top, I guess to keep water out, but it should breather much better with some holes in the side. Does yours pop a lot on deceleration?

My 02 popped a good bit on deceleration..Guess it was a little bit on the lean side with the M-4 can that is on it. I bought a db killer insert for the M-4 and made sure everything was sealed up and now no more popping... The db killer insert that I got is about midway between the sound of a stock exhaust and an open M-4...In other words cops can't hear me from 2 miles away when I get on it.....

Where was the DB killer purchased?
I've just been to M4's web site and MZ is no longer listed in their product line.

I bought it off the ebay uk site for around 30 bucks. The guy sent me a card with the order www.spengineering.co.uk... Did you get the carb sorted out? From what I understand the secondary carb is supposed to open after the main one moves about 6 or 7 millimeters.

Where can you get an air filter that fits the Baghira in the US? Can someone tell me what the stock jet sizes are? In the manual I downloaded it listed several different sizes for mains and pilots.

that filter is hard to find in the usa
i cut the old paper filter out but leave the wire screen
then use a flat sheet of filter from a trail bike
brand name is uni
info here
http://www.unifilter.com/online%20catal ... ories.html
(if this link dies sent pm so i can fix it )
ask local shop for a uni bf1 should make several filters
i use it in my lawn boy 2cycle mower ..

my 660 and rt125 use the same filter
the Saxon Tour is replaced with a filter from the bmw chopper in the bond movie
with an adapter made from the bottom of a Fritos scoops can (how to do this file on request )
hope this helps

I just found the thread with all the specs. It will take a couple of days to read all of this info, so I can figure out what besides the muffler the previous owners have changed. My air filter is a cone shaped foam on a wire frame, and it doesn't seem to fit tight enough to the intake to seal completely. I didn't realize that the carbs are different from a Raptor, so now I need to figure out which one- or both- have the lean jets. Thanks for all of your help, and I will get to reading.
