Why 3 fuses instead of 4?

Postby harold » Sun Jul 24, 2011 1:54 pm

Having just got this bike, 2002 Baghira a couple of weeks ago, this forum has been tremendously helpful. I noticed when I bought the bike, that the fuse block only had 3 fuses, even though on the side you can see where it lists 4 fuses, as does the parts diagrams I have seen. The fuse block looks untouched, but the previous owner said when they bought the bike several wires were disconnected in this area, so the fuse block may not be stock. It wouldn't bother be so much except the neutral light doesn't work. I have checked the bulb and it is OK, so I am wondering if there is another wire that should go to the 4th fuse that isn't, and that's why my neutral light doesn't work. I appear to be missing my 15 amp circuit.

Cam someone tell me:
1. What fuse the neutral light runs off of. I found out the hard way that the 3 amp fuse in the middle does the turn indicators.
2. Should the heat light come on with the key, like most warning lights, to let you know the bulb is good? I have checked it, and the bulb works, but it never comes on. The bike doesn't run hot, but it would be nice to know that the warning light worked if it ever did overheat.

Looking at my baghira wiring diagram i have four fuses. 3amp,7amp, 15 amp and 20amp fuse. One of the fuses the 7amp supplies power directly to the thermo switch which controls the engine fans and also the warning light. Coming off the fuse block the wire is listed as sw 0.75.. Don't know what color sw is... Sorry I don,t know the color of the wire right now but will take a look at it sat morning and get back to you... My fans come on after idleing in the garage about 5 minutes on a 90 degree day... temp light has never come on ...I should check the bulb probably just to be safe

All the wire colors are in German. That threw me a little too.

sw = Black (schwarz)
ws = White (weiss)
rt = Red (rot)
br = Brown (brun)
gr = Green (grun)
ge = Yellow (gelb)
bl = Blue (blau)

Not too difficult to figure out, but I would have had to get yellow by a process of elimination.

in the electrical drawing
item 31 a diode also with markings 31a and 31b
its part of the interlock safety relay item 30 if its open or shorted
it can cause all sorts of weird things to happen
i do not know where it is in the harness
some one else may know
dave

its to left and up from the battery on the drawing
like about 10am on a clock

finding the diode in the harness is about like finding water with a divining rod. Anybody's guess where it might be.
Can't speak for the Baggi but the Skorpion also has the 3 fuse holder. The fuse for the fans and thermo switches and is separate, in line.

Thanks for the replies. With the wiring diagram I will try to trace some things.

But can someone tell me, does your heat light come on with the key, like a normal warning light? And, even in FL, my fans so far have never come on that I have seen. The bike also has never acted like it was over heating. After a 15 minute ride at 95 degrees, when I turned it off, I could put my hand on the radiator cap. BY the way, when you try to next put your hand on a radiator hose, with bifoculs and a semi dark garage, your black exhaust pipe looks a lot like a hose. Until you touch it of course.

I would try the 5 minute idle thing, but after reading the thread about thumpers and idling, I won't worry about it until or unless it ever gets hot. And screw the hose test the next time.

Nope, doesn't come on to test function. It's really just an "Eye Dee 10 Tee" light. :D

The previous owner of mine had wired a switch into the fans "because they stopped coming on". I finally figured that out (bad sensor/switch) and they work fine, at present.
I did have the light come on a few weeks ago (poking around the parking lot), blown fuse...replaced that and all was well.
Right now, it's hitting the high 90's here in Nashville. The fans will kick on in really slow traffic and occasionally when I get home and park it (30 minute suburban commute).
You can use a jumper wire on the switch to check that the fans will at least come on. And I'd check that bulb someway.

Reminds me of the old blacksmith/horseshoe joke..."I told you that thing was hot"..."Nope, just don't take me long to look at a horseshoe... :D

Good luck,

i jumper my fans at the thermo switch a couple times a year and let them run for a bit
so there not stuck when they do need to come on

hot here but not getting any fans running
but have not been getting stuck in traffic
every one is staying home hugging there air conditioner

Thanks guys. It is nice to know about the heat warning light. Since the wiring on this bike has been messed with, I didn't know what I should expect. I will jumper the fans to make sure they work. The neutral light is something that I can do without, but I am hoping to find a wire that they just didn't connect right. These diagrams will help. The PO disconnected the side stand switch, and just twisted the wires together. That is where I think I'll start looking.

just twisted the wires together

i do not like the bypassed side stand switch
but if you do... do solder it so it does not leave you setting

I have to agree. As much of a headache as it can be, I've managed to ride off with the side stand down on a couple of other bikes... :oops:

the above 2 post are

saying

it hurts when you fall off

even at slow speed

and sticking a side stand in the ground at any kind of speed

will make you fall down just like they do on the crash and burn TV shows

Well, after reading the wise words of billr I reconnected my sidestand switch today whilst prepping my bike for its MOT next week. I'd disconnected it a while ago and had fitted a jumper so I refitted it and put a jumper back in just in case of any future problems.
