Brake Pad Source in US?

Hi all. Haven't posted in a while, since the Baggy has been in storage. Getting it out and back on the road now, which means that I'm looking to replace the brake pads. Only problem is that the few leads I had on the correct pads for the front brake on a Baggy (EBC FA177 and Ferodo FDB782P) seem nowhere to be found here in the states.

If I remember correctly, there wasn't another model that shared the same front pad (unlike the rear pads, which are also on some Aprilia Pegasos). Since all sellers of motorcycle parts and accessories here in America have quickly forgotten that MZ ever existed, it's nearly impossible to find anything that was purpose-built for our bikes.

Anyone know a source for the front pads here in the U.S.? Or if not, anyone had good luck ordering from a European seller?

Appreciate any advice.

hasn't been that long since I got EBC pads from cyclebrakes.com. Even if they don't show on the website, call and order FA173 and FA177..

Thanks for the assist, ed, but I got this.

Appreciate the info guys. I placed my order through cyclebrakes.net. They seem to be reputable. I'll report back when I receive the pads.

I'll also keep searching to see if we have a provider of the HH pads here in the U.S. Not surprised that the couple who do provide pads for our bikes just offer the base organic model. They'll do in a pinch, though.

They were recommended by EBC, but were a couple bucks more than cyclebrakes.net, so of course, being the cheapskate I am....

Anyway, I also bought a barely used R1 front rotor off of ebay that arrived today. I'll let you know how it all goes together. Funny how, when you first start a project, you're on a quest to find the most super-duper, top o' the line bits to put on, but after your bike has been sidelined for a couple of weeks, you'll take anything that fits just to get it back on the road.

The light-weight, high performance bits can wait for another day I guess....

hey...i just picked up a set of EBC FA177 for the front...actually ordered them at a local yamaha dealer 28bucks

That's a pretty good deal. I got the FA177s from Cyclebrakes.net for $27, but had to pay shipping, so your dealer price actually works out to be a couple of bucks cheaper.

I have about 18k miles (~27k km) on the original brakes, but both the front and back had plenty of pad left on them (I've done mostly touring on my Baggy). I have to change the front rotor due to what we'll call an unfortunate mishap, so I figured I might as well bleed the systems and change the pads while I'm at it. The current pads are at least 6 years old.

Right now, I'm worried about getting the front caliper apart. I was able to press the caliper off the bracket, but all four caliper bolts are frozen solid. I'm worried I'm going to do some damage to the caliper if I'm not careful.

Anyone have any suggestions for getting frozen bolts out of the caliper?

i replaced mine with metrics from home depot.....not the cheap ones! the original ones were toast after the 2nd wheel set...soft steel i think but, anyhow...ripped mine out with vise grips and patience...neither broke off.... lots of liquid wrench before attempt...size 10 1.25 30mm, the ones i have are black with allen heads and worked great so far....i only removed the bracket bolts to be replaced off the forks..did not see reason to remove or diassemble the caliper....cleaned by hand and regreased , a little antiseize and she was mended....good luck!

hey...were you only replacing the pads? if so there are 2 bolts at the top of the caliper....remove those 2 and the pads will fall out (should) my pins were fouled up so a little clean up and grease and pushed the plungers open with fingers ..in went the pads then the pins...with some genle persuasion....once again good luck
