New MZ rider!

Postby Steve1200s » Tue Nov 15, 2011 5:08 pm

Hi. All,

Just got MZ, loving it but it requires some work.

It's an ETZ251, which has been slightly 'GS'ified....

Looks like fun. What about the gearing?

Thanks all! I'm really loving the bike, it's a fun bike to ride, if a bit loud!

One question though, does anyone know the standard front sprocket size?
I want to lower the gearing a bit. There is a 19tooth sprocket on eBay for it, will that be lower than standard?
Or is there a lower sprocket than 19t available?

I'm guessing a larger rear sprocket is out of the question due to the Cushdrive/chain cover thing.

I know I could take the cover off and look, but I've had the thing in bits so many times lately, I don't want to take it too bits again unless I need to...

don't go to small that can put stress on the output shaft and bearing on most bikes

and do loctite the nut its covered and if it gets loose may not be noticed till its done damage

I've recently seen a guy selling sprockets down to 16tooth! I think that way too much, so I'm sticking withthe 19 when i chainge the chain (I've got some new gators to put on, so I may aswell do the chain and sprocket at the same time).

I may end up keeping the 21 tooth anyway, I think the bike hadent been used for a while, because it seems to pick up much better now after a coupkle of weeks of use. or my brain and throttle controll has got use to the bike...... I think the BMW (1200S) will be a shock when I get it back out after winter!..... :? That beast can take me to work barley off idle all the way. :D

I'm hoping we get snow this year, so I can put the ETZ's "off road" tires to the test! :D After all, thats what I bought it for!
