Rev Counter

I would like to fit a small rev counter to my Baghira, has anybody on here done this? Is it easy? what parts are needed etc?,

trailtech/acewell would be the easy way but i think the drive is on the engine and blanked off,you would need the bits from i think a yammy,think i have seen this mod on this site somewhere,have a dig round

I have a Trailtech Vapor on my Skorpion but I only use the speedo and trip meters. The tachometer wasn't working for me and I don't really feel the need to monitor water temp at the moment. I tried wrapping the rpm sensor around the spark plug wire, as instructed, and never got consistent readings. I also tried attaching it directly to the coil and the rpms still wandered too much to be useful. After speaking with one of the local shop guys, he got his to work on an XR650 but only after contacting Trailtech and having them ship him a special sensor wire with a resistor or something soldered into it.

I did not really want to fit a multi function unit, cost, functions I don`t need etc, I was thinking of a stand alone rev counter or possibly swopping the whole h/light speedo unit for a mastiff set up as there is one on ebay at the moment, although I would still need the engine drive bits you mentioned Rodge.

sure i have seen a pic on here with the drive fitted,as for erratic rev counter on trailtech get the raptor resistor wire and that sorts it.

They offer function specific units too that are very compact.

Thanks, I just found a post on the Raptor forums about it. Easy DIY fix.

I fitted an electronic one from M+P (£30) to my top yolk ,simple three wire install.

I did it with a mechanical drive from an xt600 and a mechanical clock with a 4/1 ratio from flebay
look at my gallery photos,have fun with the tacho cable though,

Those using the TrialTech Vapor need to have a 600k ohm1/4 watt resistor inline from the coil to tach. that is their "special" wire...

i mounted an acewell tach, there is a free plug on the CDI, if you plug it in you get a steady reading

nearly all aftermarket tachs can and should be connected directly to the minus pin of the coil. Of course thay can be connected to that terminal of the ignition box (which is not a CDI) but not to any such thing as a "free pin."
Acewells are such tachs. So is the Scitsu (or can be; there are several versions) which is by far the best buy for the money.
The original large Skorpion tach has the same signal.
If you have a box with blue label, then any such tach will work.
If you have the orange label, the tach has its own plus signal which is a separate pin on the box.
