Ignitech ignitions and regulators

Postby samandkimberly » Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:59 pm

My shipment of regulators and ignitions arrived. Here's my initial take on these:

Ignition - there's been a lot posted on these. I haven't had a lot of chance to play with it but it certainly is easy to program and comes with a stock setup for the Yamaha XT600 that works well. Bill J graciously sent me his program and that works well too - power is much softer at lower RPMs, engine is quieter, and it still runs great up top. My seat of the pants dyno says there may be a HP or 2 sacrificed for this, but that is unverified and perhaps it just feels that way because it's smoother.
My own opinion is that the real potential for this unit lies in getting more/better power out of non-stock motor configurations - I'm sure some time on a dyno with an ignition like this would net a couple more ponies on a race motor, as well as making it less prone to detonation damage. The differences on a stock motor are noticeable, but subtle. Two of them are spoken for; I have 1 or 2 more I will sell at $175.00 programmed and delivered in the continental US. I would recommend, however, that anyone who buys one also learn how to program it - it's easy, and educating. I plan on continuing to play with the ignition and will post whenever I find out anything interesting.

Regulator - these are nice units, with heat sinks that make the stock ones look tame. Heat dissipation is what kills most regulators so this would imply that these should last a long time. $125 delivered.

PM me if interested in buying either, let's keep this discussion about the product, not buying it. If I still have any in a few weeks I'll repost in the for sale section; it made sense to me to put these here as there has been much discussion on both items.
