When you say it has fuel how are you checking? Wet plug? Smelly exhaust? If you have a decent spark at the plug, and the plug isn't fouled, the bike should run at least, though perhaps crappy if you have failing electrical components. Try a new plug and starting fluid to 99% verify you don't have a fuel/fouling issue.
BTW - the easy way to get starting fluid into the airbox is to put a WD 40 cap with the little red tube on the starter fluid can, pull the air box drain or another vent, and spray it in there. Good trick for lots of bikes.

Yea the exhaust does puff and it does smell like gas, also it dos fire once or twice in a few mins of cranking.
Its something to do with the timing or secondarily the quality of the spark (in my estimation).
Cool.

I can't see why your timing would change. given the system design. Crappy gas, ie gas left in a bike over a winter would cause these same problems. I'm not saying you're wrong, but a healthy spray of starting fluid can pretty much nail down fuel as an issue if it works. Perhaps you're a little too far down the dismantling path now for that, but it's something I always try before I start checking/replacing electrical components.

40 miles and got a fill up when it stalled

sounds like my rt125 after a fill up .... stirs up all the crap in the tank and dumps it in the carb float bowl

also happens when i go on reserve

me thinks you have a really gummed up carb

its almost an every time thing ..i fill up event with mine..i have to break out the screw driver and drain it
its like some one turned off the key ..the crud will not burn

Oh xxxx ... I had this thing die in the rain the day before. Left it parked there, pushed it 1/4 mile back home, then ran it 40 miles before this fill up killed it for good.
I think my tank takes in water ... well ... no thinking, I know it does. I'll clean it out, the carbs are clean, however that doesn't say nothing about water ...

For a starter clutch - will this work -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-Raptor-660 ... f2&vxp=mtr

Its got fewer teeth, but they bite differently than the stock MZ's.

Is that better or worse.

Good ting raptor parts are easy to get. Nice upgrades - nice.
