Baghira Steering Damper

Postby Meeners » Thu May 10, 2012 9:28 am

Has anyone ever installed a damper on the Baghira/Mastiff? Looking for one for the street bike.

Unless you are SERIOUS about finding where the edge of your bikes performance is, or are just interested in the bling, a steering damper won't do anything for you. IMO :!:

I understand. I've personally witnessed head shake and twitchiness on my bike with little input above 55 mph. It's not really about the bling honestly just exploring my options, as I do track days around the midwest. It's not throttle input that causes it, and it could be because I'm so used to a solid connection w/ clip ons as opposed to rubber bushings on the risers... but even after those were tightened, I still experience it.

Does anyone have the steering stem measurements?

Also... If this isn't enough to justify, then I don't know what is.

bad tank slapper on the freeway and broke my ankle.
Took me 10 years to find that freeway defect to provoke the
force 10 tank slapper at 65 mph. A damper would have saved me...
We underestimate the danger when we ride....I think it is human nature.
Can't happen to me...etc.

Get a steering damper. You don't need it
until you need it. No bike is immune from a tank slapper.
Ok, maybe a goldwing is immune. Btw, I'm looking for a stock traveller/tour exhaust.
If you need help getting the damper installation mounts : I have it figured out.

I got maybe 3 slaps before the bike slams into the road. Changing lanes did me in, if I had hit it straight on
probably nothing serious. Fortunately, I slid off the freeway and didn't get run over.

That's insanely bad luck, but that's all it is, IMHO, a massivley random accident.

Can't say that I've ever thought the Baghira needs a damper myself.
Baghira 660 for the road, CCM 404 for green laning. Singles rock!

I'm just posting what I am experiencing and asking if anyone's installed a steering damper on a Baghira. No bike 'needs' one... But I would like to install one.

Our bikes don't need exhausts, or sliders, or any other modifications either... But we still buy them.

I called Scott's and will be giving them measurements tomorrow...

If anyone is looking for the measurements to get a damper made from Scott's here are the ones I got. Not perfect but I used a digital caliper. Double Check your Own. My 'C' measurement isn't perfect but it's damn close without taking the bars off.

My Measurements taken per this diagram:
http://www.scottsonline.com/litrack/258.pdf

A: 121.45mm

B: 40.18mm

C: 33.48mm

photo bucket dumped the pictures i erased the links (dave MOD)

I've got to get more measurements this weekend because I have fatter bars installed... So I'll take the bars off and post those as well :)

Yes, good, but the images on photobucket are not displaying - says "This image or video has been removed or deleted". You would not have removed them so soon...?
