Postby mr-brightside » Sun May 03, 2009 5:14 pm

i went out for a quick ride on the baghira today when i got home found out i had lost one of the fastners that hold the front of the seat on to the tank :( are these a special mz bolt ? or does aerotek dzus bolts fit ? ive searched the net but cant find one the exact size

You can get them from grahams (google mz grahams). I got a full set for my '02 baggi, but I think the holes are gubb ed on my bike. beware those bolts are expensive...

The repalcement bolt for under the seat and the two fasteners for the front of the seat cost me over £20 +postage

The holes here the fasteners connect are either worn or too big.

I'd be interested if you find a better solution than using the MZ OEM bolts. I currently don't have anything to keep the seat permanently attached to the bike...

i just orderd 6 from ebay for £4.50 inc postage not sure if they will fit yet but the size seems about the same ile let you know when i get them .
i supose if the insides are worn i could always get some of that liquid metal they sell in small tubes fill the holes a re tap it to 6mm .

If you haven't got anything sorted yet send me your address and I'll send a spare one to you, I should have the right size ones here somewhere. (I contacted one of the main manufacturers/distributors of dzus fasteners and told them I was a business and needed a sample pack and they sent some to me for free!)

thanks for the offer but im all sorted now (this post is 3 years old :D ) i drilled my fastners out and replaced them with 6mm nut inserts so i could use standard 6mm panel bolts . this would also work with the bolt under the seat but if you cant get hold of a nut insert tool you could just try superglueing a nut in there?

:D Great stuff!

There is a thread - or two - on this. I vaguely remember Keith doing something about it. There were problems with the original fasteners being corroded and that led to people looking at various alternatives. I'll try to find that thread - if I find it, I'll add the link here.
PS: Many threads / many references to it: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.mzriders.com+brake+light+switch

Just thinking...the screws falling out, that suggests that using Loctite would be helpful, but the problems with corrosion means using anti-seize.

What is a nut insert? And nut insert tool? :? I thought i had all tools.

bit hard to explain but it sort of looks like an air riveter with a threaded bolt sticking out of it you just thread the insert on to the sticking out bolt then put it in the hole where you want your thread and press the trigger on the insert tool then the insert squashes up so its expanding on the outside griping the hole that you have just put it in leaving you with a thread for a bolt. hope that sort of makes sense
