I'm back!

Postby funmonkee » Sun May 27, 2012 11:35 am

Got myself another MZ. Last time I had a black panther and stooopidly let it go. Got myself a MZ mastiff 2002 and yip. Brilliant bikes.

It's been abused but seems reliable. I have a few questions looking for a bit of advise...

The easy ones

It comes with what looks like the rear grab handles and a base strips for a top box. What top box fits this? It look pretty small...
I'm also on the look out for

NEW risers - the riser son it a bent and I have to ride with the bars down at one side. Been round the local shops and none of them sell risers
NEW rear side plastics - don't care what colour, but blue would be good, or black or white... but TBH any cos I can handle a spray can :-)
Ingition case - the lower ingition case is damaged - would just need the case as the internals work and I have 2 keys...

The rear master cylinder...hmm the one on this mastiff is not standard, I'd like to return to standard so would be looking to buy spares or surplus lying around.

Ebay seems a bit dry on mastiff and baghira parts at the moment.... that's a wee bit worrying

Cheers

It looks like the standard rack, for tying luggage to. If you don't want it, i'll buy it. :)

Order online? The handlebar clamps for Honda CRF fit, i used CRF rubbers in mine.

Apparently, the standard Grimeca calipers are crap, so you might be better off with the one you've got, if it's properly installed. People always looking for alternative calipers that fit.

Try ebay.de
I saw side covers there a week or so ago, but very expensive.
The trouble is, 90% of what comes up in the search results are oil filters, so you have to go through all that.

hi and welcome back, before you buy risers just slacken the riser nuts and handle bar clamps bolts off first, you may find the one riser may have twisted in the top yoke rubbers, friend of mines baggy fell off a aa relay once, looked like the riser had bent but on removing to repair noticed it had twisted in the rubber mounts.
looks like you just need to route reservoir behind side panel.

Cheers will check.

As for ebay. If you search for "mz baghira" you will get tons of oil/filters/plugs, but if you try

"mz baghira -plug -plugs -oil -oilfilter"

you will filter out the words you don't want

no problem. I get sick of the tons of oil filters , pads ect as well...

THank sguys I checked the yokes and handle bar clmaps and saved myself £20 ... I push the bars back into place and they are now straight.
I've ordered a LHS switch gear from ebay.de as mine was used for the throttle only. The cut off switch was snapped off and the starter was bypassed and a side stand switch used instead to start the bike...grrr

I'm also on the look out for some cast wheels. I will do a search and see what might be close to fit. But I fully expect to have to get a pair of wheels from say a bandit, get different bearings and spacer made up. I don't like the idea of messing withthe brakes too much so will try to keep the same calipers --> which means finding wheels with the same brake disks... So I know the vmax front disk is a goer, but I don't want a vmax 18 front wheel...what about R1 or R6? 1998?

yes, the R1 disks that fit are the earlier / 2001-2002. Keith Cross did it.

check the last posts in these search results - if you haven't already read them:
