Skorpion won't start after rain storm.

Postby edfmaniac » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:11 pm

My bike sat through a downpour and now it isn't firing. It will turn over and smells like it's getting plenty of fuel, but no fire. I checked all of the connections in the ignition system and still no fire. After running out of ideas, I decided to put the Ignitech ignition back on. When taking off the oem unit, water started pouring out of it. At this point I'm convinced that it will fire right up after completing the ignition swap but it still won't start. Any ideas?

if relay 30 is not closing it gets no electric to the box

the handlebar switch, side stand switch and bike in neutral all effect this
drawing is about the same as rt125 but relay is Number 19 on the 125's

if ing box was full of water the relay probably is also as well as the carb and gastank

It didn't get submerged. I just have all of the body panels off and the ignition was right under the overhang of my roof. All of the electronics directly under the seat should be dry and I'll check the fuel tank for water but I doubt that's why it has no spark. Thanks and I'll keep trying to pin down the problem.

Will the bike even turn over if the kickstand switch or neutral safety isn't working properly? I thought those devices disabled the starter too.

Well it's not the first time I've done something stupid and it probably won't be the last. After being convinced that I had found the problem in the water soaked ign, I was in such a hurry to get the bike back together that I left one of the coil wires unhooked.   It fired right up after plugging that lead back in. :D

happens to all of us
got a block from the house with the traveller
it started cutting out
got it back to house and started looking at things
got lucky one of the spade lugs on the coil was loose
crimped it to make it fit tighter
and was good again
if it was not half off the spade lug i could have looked for days

For the record, the stock ignition box is working again after I let it dry out.
