6 Volt Coil Alternatives

Can any one please inform me if the have used successfully a alternative coil from the standard one and where it was located/fitted on the bike.

I would recommend a bosch coil from a 1970's BMW Twin, they use 2 six volt coils in series. The original ones fitted to my R100, are thirty years old and have covered 122,000miles, without a problem. (Now thats tempting fate!)

i second that !
my 1974 r90S had 479.512 miles
and the coils were going good when i sold it after 28 years
the first 4 years they ran on the points system
the rest on a Boyer electronic unit
have had several bikes with that coil and never had one go bad
