Skorpion Tour Airbox access to install fliter.

Postby Jimbo786 » Fri Sep 21, 2012 10:51 am

Hello all! I had a Skorpion Tour briefly around 10 years ago but didn't appreciate it like I am with my new unmolested 2000 Tour with only 3000 miles on the clock. I've done my first dry sump oil change and am trying to figure out how to get to the air filter. It's 13 years old and I figure I should replace it with a K&N KA-5087 after the slight airbox mod.. Kind of looks like the tank has to come up or off to get to it. I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get airbox access before I go and get myself in trouble. This is an awesome thumper and this time around I am going to really enjoy riding it!

If anyone knows a link to a pdf workshop manual in English I'd appreciate it. I have a German friend so the original language will work. I will be selling the stock muffler and maybe the Hepco & Becker hard bags and frame and will put that in the classifieds. Thanks, Jim

looked at my traveller to refresh the brain

its access is under the seat at the very front behind the tank mount but in front of the battery

a rubber intake cover comes out and filter is held in by an Allen head hex bolt

the rubber intake is missing on mine and a lot of other bikes as its a chore to get back in the air box

i use UNI foam in the original filter frame
that k and n filter has a very steep price ????

filter is the same as rt125

You can download a .pdf workshop manual for the Yamaha SZR 660 (same engine except for 1st gear ratio) here: http://dougkearney.com/mz/
Have a look at the DIY airfilter mod I did before buying anything: http://youcanttouronasingle.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/diy-airfilter.html
I would look back at earlier posts concerning exhausts before selling your stock muffler - you might find it's the best one to use!

Thanks David, I'll take out the battery tomorrow and see how to open the airbox. I found the K&N on Amazon for $38 shipped so I splurged. And Norman I have been enjoying your blog and saw your mod but I'm getting lazy these days so went for the K&N. Thanks for the links!

battery does not block access or need to be removed
filter comes out the top when the rubber piece is removed

but its a good time to check battery fluid level and clean the post connections
