660 Baghira performance mods

Postby Chalks » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:58 am

:smt006 Hi,
I'm new to the site and to MZ. I've recently bought a 2003 Baghira and was hoping for some quick and cheap performance tips. I've read a lot of conflicting reports on jetting and carb set up so I'm reluctant to start the tuning without good advice so any would be grately appreciated. Cheers. Chalks.

Hi Cat,
Thanks for the welcome.
I've done a few tweaks this weekend and got the bike on the back wheel off the throttle, I'm well pleased. I can't wait for the rain to stop to give the old buss a good run out :twisted

typical , you ask for help in one post , you figure something out that answerers your question ,then fail to disclose what you found out for the benefit of everybody else reading this thread,,

We can all guess the tweaks but it would be nice for the newest of members to read,
Oh mutly,,you did it again, she he he he he ehheheheh

Take a chill pill man! If you could have guessed the tweaks it would have been nice to post your thoughts for the newest members asking the questions!

One tooth down on the gearbox sprocket, mixture screw set at 4 tuns out and secondary carb buterfly set to open when the primary carb piston is at 6mm high. Hey presto!

according to the "guru" you'd be wise to leave the front sprocket at 15 and go larger on the rear....helps reduce wear on engine ...just sayin'

Cheers for that, I 'm still playing around with the set up, I'm going to try it out with the origional gearing again after the carb tweaks as it's hitting the rev limiter in top gear. I'm sure one down on the front is the equivalent of going up three on the rear but I'll need a longer chain. I'm sure I could to live with it at the cost of a little top speed.

do changes on the bigger rear sprocket
changes to the front can result in too much stress on the output shaft area
use OEM size on front

smaller front sprocket, chain wear much faster. 15 is good, 14 is not so good - 14 is the minimum.

Thanks for the advice chaps,
I'm back to the 15 front, and its still standing upright off the throttle so the carb tweaks seem to have done the trick.
I'm trying to get my mits on a set of spare carbs to try "the ultimate carb set up" viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1146 as it would be nice to know I'm getting the best from what I've got without parting with too much cash. Has anyone got any results or conclusions from this setup?????

wots the opinion of a 16 tooth front... was gonna do it for a quick fix...i have 42 rear at moment... i beleive the standard baghira super moto is a 39 rear...15 front...???
I'm a schizophrenic so am I !!!!

one tooth smaller than standard works better - unless most of your riding is on the motorway.

I found that 1 tooth smaller on the front made the bike buzzy on the twisties but it revved out way too easily and I was constantly short shifting to prevent me hitting the limiter. I quickly changed it back to standard gearing as the majority of my riding is commuting and a mix of twisties and flat out!
