Heavy duty replacement battery for 2000 Skorpion Tour

Postby Jimbo786 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 5:53 pm

Hello, seems my battery is going and was wondering if anyone can suggest a heavier duty battery than the Yuasa YB9L-8B I don't want to do any electrical mods for extra amps but just if anyone has upgraded and been happy with that battery I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Jim.

Have a look at this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motobatt-motocycle-battery-for-MZ-Skorpion-Tour-659cc-2000-4-QuadFlex-MB9U-/180984413704?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2a2382fe08 I haven't used them but they seem to be the only thing that is dimensionaly the same. I recommend that you try the battery for fit before you fill it, as once the acid is in you won't be able to exchange it. Can I also suggest that you use the battery conditioner type charger (Optimate etc) as these can be left in place especially if you have an alarm fitted.

i am using
interstate m2210y the items in the battery area have been moved a bit and remounted
you have to take the cap off the rear master cylinder then replace it when dropping battery in place
this is also a very tight fit in my rt125 ...in the 125 it has to be removed to check and fill the water

Thanks much for your responses and information Radiograf and David. I like the Motobatt upgrade and will go with that one and spend the extra 22 bucks over the Yuasa.

batterys are a big problem with me there a money pit
almost shot battery on the 660 as it just sat and only ridden about 4 times in the last year
i need to get the r50s back on the road it can run with no battery
so if it sets for long periods no problem
the battery i am using now yb10l-a2 fits on all 3 of my mz bikes so i may just fix it so i can change it quick
i do not ride but 1 trip out of my area
in a year any more so having more than the rt125 up and running is getting to be expensive

I fitted a Motobatt QuadFlex MB9U, to my Skorpion Traveller as it claims to be High Cranking, and Low Discharge, so Ideal for bikes that are not run regularly.

I must say it work's just as it Say's on the tin, the engine fire's instantly even after being stood for a couple of month's (carbs left empty),
also its a AGM battery so no acid top up or spill.

Just fitted one of these. Charges OK with the Optimate as well and copes better with the current drain from the alarm. Not tried to start the engine yet.
