Fuel tank for Skorpion?

Postby mforza » Sat Oct 13, 2012 2:14 pm

I'm looking for shorter fuel tank for my Skorpion.
Any sugestions what will somehow fit on it? :)
Need the shorter tank so I can move more forward on the bike!

Just curious why you would want to do that. If you move too far forward, you will upset the balance of traction and bad things can happen.

I just received the '93 Suzuki RG125 tank that I've been trying to find for a long time now and it's going to fit perfectly. It's about the same length but is shorter in height so my belly will have more breathing room and I can tuck better. Here's a pic of what one looks like on a Skorpion.

I do not want to move up too much but I keep crashing thx to not getting weight on my front wheel when I'm in mid corner or exiting out of the corner.
To explain this, almost always the front washed out on me in high speed corners.
Im fine on the brakes but when Im off the brake and in midcorner the front slowly walks away from me. :(
Crashed 4 times this sason, always the same scenario.
I think I also put the footpegs too high so I will lower them down and back a little.
But I think I need to put more weight on the front.
It feels right now that I have no laverage over the bike when Im riding it
I hope this makes any sense :D
If anyone have some sugestion pls let me know!

Obviously there are a lot of factors affecting motorcycle handling, but too *much* weight on the front can cause under steer, which sounds like what you're experiencing. Getting your weight back and twisting the throttle harder might be the fix, not the other way around.

A new tank will cost about the same as a day at American Supercamp or a similar race school. I'll bet the school will cut your lap times more than the tank...and be more fun.

I too would recommend that you spend your money on driving school or get with a suspension tech. Entirely too many people have glowing reviews of the Skorpion's handling for it to be a problem with basic design layout. IMO.

I see what you saying but the front wheel never "locked in" on me, just washed out. Got another msg from Dave and he thinks that its the rebound issue.
I think he might be right about that.
Im using CBR F3 fully adjustable front end with RaceTech internals on my Skorpion so I will get this to my suspension guy and try it. Hope it helps.
Im racing bikes for few years now and the Skorpion is one that is the most fun to race but also gives me the most trouble :-D

My project should be complete about the time that they start having track days at COTA here in Austin. That is assuming they ever allow amateur racers an opportunity to get their jollies on that state of the art track.

Let me know when they start doing the track days there :)
I have a friend down in Texas that is racing there and we are planning to go there and get some practice for next season so maybe we can meet there :D
