Baghira upside down forks???

Postby Chalks » Tue Oct 09, 2012 3:43 am

Hi, I've recently broken a 450 Gas Gas with 45mm Mazorocci upside down forks, 17 inch Supermoto wheels, 320mm disc and 4 pot Brembo caliper. I can't help thinking how sweet they'd look on my Baghira. I'm sure resprung they'd work well and it would sort out my wooden brake problems. I have a friend that works in a machine shop and I'm sure he could make me a steering pin if required.

Any tips on the conversion or if they would be suitable for the job would be much appreciated.

Hi, did you use new springs? I was thinking of posibly using a preload spacer to stiffen them up as they feel very soft.

Not sure mate the were fitted when I got the bike, they are a bit soft but very predictable with it

The Baghira steering head uses bearings with the outside diameter the same as a 1999 - 2003 YZ Yamaha.
The YZ steering head stem of those years works but is too long.
The solution is to make a spacer with the YZ bearings O.D. and .190 thick and it's a bolt on, useing the YZ bearings and triple tree or stem of course...

Spacer .190 inch

David,

I believe I installed the spacer between the lower bearing and head set, not the upper.
I recall the YZ bearing and race thickness being less than the factory type allowing contact between the head set and the lower triples casting... I'll check it as soon as I can, and provide pictures of the assembly.

Here's another view of the spacer.

Thanks for the info Robert, I don't suppose you know the O.E. Baghira sizes for head bearings, I've trawled loads of on line shops and forums but cant seem to find the dimensions anywhere?

Grahames list it as a 6205, part no.1 on this diagram http://www.grahamsmotorcycles.com/2010%20WEB%20SITE/BAGHIRAMASTIFF%20FILE/BAGMAS_FRAME.htm.
Bearing sizes listed here http://www.bearingworks.com/bearing_sizes/index.php a 6205 is 52x25x15mm.
