Skorpion: self flattening battery

Hi,
I recently changed the battery on my Skorpion, the old one was ten years old, but she continues to flatten the battery with the ignition off if left for a few day to a week.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be and how one might begin testing to see where the problem lies.

try unplugging the v/r output in to the system
if things are not correct in it it can cause a drain to ground
in most systems

v/r...rough guess, voltage rectifier/regulator,it will have permanent non switched feed to it usually.
you could hook up an ammeter between battery positive and loom to see what sort of drain is on the bike with ign off and unplug stuff till you find the culprit causing the drain

sorry v/r short hand for voltage regulator the rectifier is built in to it in most modern units it
has diodes in it and if there going bad can drain a battery
most new systems do not turn it off with the key so it drains battery if there is a bad diode

take it out the bike and retest it with a volt meter 24 hours later

Funny that, have the same problem on mine. Have just disconnected V Reg and it still shows very small drain (milliamps)which would drain battery over a reasonable period. That's one of the reasons I'm looking for the back current diodes. Am on the case though and will be first going through component disconnection to see if it's that or a minor drain somewhere in the loom........I'll let you know if I identify it in case it's the same as yours

the back current diodes. can cause drain even the best quality ones have some drain
in the reverse direction

you can make a negative wire quick disconnect from a radio antenna fitting called a BNC connector

wire the shield and center together and it makes a quick disconnect for the earth cable

stupid boy pike! Slightly mislead here as previous owner mentioned possible battery drain when standing, put meter between pos bat & bat lead and registered 35 ma, something of a drain - could have been a problem. Disconnected all components individually no difference apart from removing 20a fuse dropped it to sub 20 ma, so roughly half the loom has 18ma each, moving loom about caused fluctuating reading but marginal. Thinking moisture/tracking at this point, until I read the meter properly (new to me meter)............0.35ma needless to say I get a higher reading between the dirty rubber carb manifold and neg terminal than that.

So, sorry looks like I don't have that problem after all. Hope you get a similar simple result. Like the connector Idea though Dave, Thanks, and I will use that, hopefully will reduce battery flattening in off use periods.

the BNC connector as a quick disconnect saved me from burning up a BMW R90S had it in the ground lead
at the transmission
smoke started rolling from shorted wires under the gas tank
had it out in less than 30 seconds once i got stopped and did a ground wire disconnect...
that made me a believer

and stopped a stuck starter motor on the rt125
