I have a 1972 ES250 with the BVF 28 carb which only has adjustment for tickover on the throttle cable. Later 250s with the BVF 30 have a tickover adjustment screw. So, is it feasible to fit a BVF 30 to the ES 250 ? Has anyone done it ? Is it difficult to do , and what effect has it had on the running of the engine ? Any info gratefully received.

Tick over on 250/301s is a bit of a mixed bag whatever carb's fitted. If they tick over well, they chunter on the overrun. If they're smooth on the overrun, they don't tick over and need a blip of the throttle occasionally at the lights.. That's a bit of a generalization, but it's not too far from the truth.
However, I've done the conversion to a later carb on my TS125 so that I can have a proper tickover adjuster and it works just fine.

Hello
We offer regenerated 28 carbs for ES 250/2 with additional adjustment for tickover by an extra screw.
But we need an old carb in exchange.Price is about 100 Euro for regeneration .
After regeneration it is like new.

The carb from a TS is a 30mm and the Trophy is only a 28mm so it won't fit straight on. You could maybe use a TS inlet manifold which will bolt straight on but I don't know whether the throat is the same as the Trophy one. The other disadvantage to this is that the TS inlet is angled which means that your air inlet hose no longer fits and the carb is pointing at the battery. I know this from recently putting a TS engine into an ETS frame. It's a bit of a pain to try and make everything fit and I don't think the advantages are that great.
A mikuni VM28 crab will fit apparently - there is a great article somewhere about different carbs on MZ's. I can't find it amongst my downloads at the minute - I presume someone else on here has seen it? I'll have a root around if no-one else has it.
