Hi Guys,

I recently had loads of starting problems on my 03 Baggie, once fired up it would back fire and stuggle to rev up, it turned out to be a faulty stand switch. You could try to bypass the switch as a process of elimination.

Thanks guys, some good leads there.

Unfortunately I'm being held hostage by my GF who feels the bike is a competitor for my emotions.

Once the coast is clear and Ive spent so quality time with the bike I'll be back to let you know how its gone.

(how to bypass the side stand switch??)

Custom bypass of switch, using a red wire...

A molex connector set is much cleaner, used the wire as an example...

this side stand switch works a relay in the bikes on the drawings its relay 30 on the 660 bikes and relay 19 on the 125cc bikes
the relay can also be the problem in some cases
it can cause funny tach readings as it powers the cdi box
its good to have a look at it
as it has failed on both my 660 and 125

Managed to get some time away from the GF, finally...

Put the tank back on quickly to just check draining the float bowl hadnt worked - no joy. Starts great, idles great, but its like its running out of juice if when you rev it, it revs once, then if you try it again it chugs and dies. Wait for a bit or give it some choke and you might be able to get it to rev again.

Tried tweaking the pilot screw, but it look like it was already was 3+ turns out, apparently once its this far out the hole it covers is fully open.

Anyway I've got the carbs off and the pilot jet whole looks a lot wider now its been cleaned, when I was squinting through the hole I could barely see through it, got noticably wider once I cleaned it and put some nylon bristles through it.

Float bowl was spotless, slides and rest of it looks good, operation of slides and the slidery thing the diaghram takes care of move up and down ok.

Anyway I'll be trying to get it in an ultrasonic cleaner before I put it back in, I dont want to be doing all this again.

Just in case I'm on the wrong track, what are the signs of rich running eg if the float bowl was over filling what would be the symptoms ??

Heres my victory pic.

Did you check the small fuel filter under the float needle valve, this has been the cause of a few problems, be careful removing the float pivot as you can easily snap off the casting this fits into.

just a thought,do you have the petrol cap vent pipe still attached to the plastic holder on handlebars,if so wrong size pipe will cause fuel starvation as the holder is not as open to the air if the pipe is a tight fit!!!
i drilled mine out and that sorted it.

I've not got into the carb yet, just pulled the pilot jet.

I'll be checking the filter, as mentioned, float height, etc.

Thanks for the tip on the breather hose. I'll be checking that alond with the flow from the tank, as well as pulling the tap and checking any filter it might have.

Hope to have made some progress by next weekend.

sorry,i should have thought of that earlier
i only found out by blowing through the tube when fitted to fuel cap, that seemed clear and then when i put the pipe onto the bar mount and blew it seemed blocked till i pulled the pipe out slightly then was ok,and if you look at the end of the holder it is not hollow so i drilled through and sorted the problem.
seem to recall changing the tube for a more flexible rubber one which was slightly larger diameter

Ordered a new spark plug, ngk iridium. And found a bsm carbon and link pipe on fleabay. :-D

Just thinking back to the last time I started it up. I heard some kind of sounds when I switched it off. Might of been a sign the carb wasn't getting enough petrol.

If it's not the breather, I guess the tap would be the next think to check. Might rig up a bottle of petrol to take the tank out of the equation entirely.

Any one know what size fuel hose these use?

my fuel cap is a lockable item with no tube... it has always been o n there and causes no problem... only thing i have noticed though is ... that there is a squealing noise sometimes in shed when i put bike away.. if i loosen the fuel cap it goes so there must be a vacuum in there... do i need a vent in this locking cap ???
I'm a schizophrenic so am I !!!!

Damn, I read you had an acerbis locking cap for yours, I was hoping it had some kind of vent to it.

Is this what you have Image

If so they are ment to be vented somehow, might be worth looking it over.

Jack, do you know what bars you've got on ur baggy?

most of the keyed caps have a vent path in the rubber gasket.
if parked out a rain cover over tank is a good idea

i stitch a key blank to center of a piece of vinyl
and weight the 4 corners to keep out the rain
