Well, can't find an original one anywhere so it had to be a mod. This is what I've fitted

It's electronic having same three lead (pos,neg,pulse) connection so is compatible and works It took some fitting and isn't a simple swap but I don't think it looks at all bad Believe it or not, it came off a Yamaha XV1100 XV1100SE Virago approx 1996. Now need to adjust it a little as I think it's maybe overeading by 300rpmish, should be able to do that on the needle but if not it's near enough. Could have modded it to take the skorpion face but needle was very tight so left it as it was. Incidentally needle is rock solid steady and not a hint of a shake

Could anyone point me at Rev/gearing charts anywhere please? ie speed + gear = x rpm?

Just gave it another run and it hits rev limiter circa 7,500rpm. So maybe it's just about right??? Incidentally, has anyone tried a mechanical kph to mph speedo converter on a skorp? I see there are some cheap on ebay about £28

i do the math if it says 40 kph take the 4 times 6 = 24 100 is take it as 10 x 6 = 60
or a cheap gps like a used fortrex 101

Thanks - lucky I came across one, don't think I'd have tried it if I'd known what it came from! Will have to get it on a tuner to check actual revs but I now think it may be a little better than that. Seems to read only 100rpm over 7400 rev limiter, I can live with that

Never had the luxury of the wiper effect but it drove me insane sitting there doing nothing............ Have dodgy fuel gauge on FJ1200 though, now that bounces from one side to the other like a metronome

Last winter I had my tacho reworked by a instrument specialist. In his workshop, without the vibrations, it behaved as it should. He went over all the soldering points, and it was OK in the beginning of the season, but it turned out to be without absolutely any use after a month or so.
No this winter he has put in new electronics inside the tachometer. And if just the spring works it should be fine… Insh'ahlla or I will give up on tachometers.

Don't give up..........it is cureable. If you have access to an instrument technician buy one the same as mine and have him transfer the internals to the original case/dial etc. I only didn't do this because the needle was very firmly fixed on the taper and I just knew I would damage it if I attempted to force the issue It would only then need minor calibration to be spot on. The Yamaha unit is clearly much better quality and isn't affected by the vibration. I bought mine for £15 so it's worth a gamble

mechanical kph converter,, If you look at my gallery you'll see i have one in line with the speedo cable at the wheel end , I'm using the gold one because i have limited space under my clocks , I have a blue one that does the same thats fits under clocks if you have the space,special price to my friends here , one only ,doh, £15

there geared to convert kph to mph but Ive never had chance to test how accurate they are , they have little gears inside so someone must have done the math,

Many Thanks for the Offer Den but I think I have the same problem . Just looked at mine and cable is fitted under clock at a very tight angle close to the bracket. Not enough clearance to fit it so I will need the lower one too. B***** thought It was my lucky day for a minute............. Really appreciate the offer though, I will have to get one cos those stickers look tooooo tacky

yeh ,, seems too tacky to put stickers on,.There must be a bike out there with the same wheel size that has a clock that fits , or a dial conversion,

This the Acewell I recently fitted. Could'nt put up with the wavy tacho or the constantly blowing bulbs. Took me a couple of evenings to fit.(electrics are not my strong point). As to the fuel gauge,( obviously redundant) this unit was heavily discounted so being a tight fisted type I don't care if it flashes empty all the time!

Looks fine, thought of one of those but wanted to keep classic type appearance Always like a heavy discount too!

As an update, have now had my tacho checked out and it is reading spot on Just my ear is not yet tuned to modern big singles, still listening to Enfields & Ajays in my mind Rock steady needle and doesn't look like it doesn't belong either. Great result

Thanks very much Mate, yes I'm well pleased with it. Having the white dial helps and most have commented that it looks like it was originally like that....unless you know like us It's still a shame I didn't swap the dial which I could have fit I'm sure, but needle was on so tight I dare'nt try any harder. Will revisit this though, especially if I come across another tacho.

Spring is here and it's time to wake up my old Traweller from winters sleep, with the refurbished tachometer installed, with new electronics inside. Everything seamed fine, but the bloody bike wouldn't start. It showed that it would not produce a spark. After having managed to check both the side stand switch and the kill switch on the handle bar, I finaly unplugged the tachometer - and it started!
The tachometer is back to the instrument shop now. If it won't work I will give up. To be honest, I would live perfectly well without a tachometer, it's just that I can't help trying to mend broken things.
