Came across an impossible to pass on deal the other day. I haven't taken delivery of her yet, and i Know she's been sitting for a while so my expectations of condition are low, but i'm very excited to rip into her to get her running again and ave some fun. Figured I'd pop on here to see if i could find any tips or tricks or advice on what to look out for with them. For now... I'm expecting to have to rebuild the carb, battery, new tires and tubes, chain and sprockets at the very least.

I'm in a suburb of Dallas, TX. I'm 33, been riding 25 years now. I've had a few bikes over the years and currently ride a yamaha fz8, but i plan to replace it in the next year or so with a new zx10 or gsxr1k for track riding.

When you do the carbs take lots of photos/videos of where everything is positioned before removing.
Rubbers go into airbox (silicon spray can help here)
then you can pull the carbs back a bit of the engine rubbers then it rotates and wiggles out the left side.

If you can get the float off theres a filter under the needle. Run a nylon bristle through the idle jet as they are a bit tight.

Ultrasonic cleaning would probably be worth it, if theres a place near you thats cheap enough. Bit of patience and being thorough is fine thou.

thanks Duncan... i haven't done a carb job in almost 20 years.. so i admit i'm not looking forward to all the little bits and pieces. I'll definitely do before and after photos. Its about 300 miles away from me and I can't make it down to get it until the 19th but I've got a friend picking it up for me this week and holding on to it until i can get it.

I was honestly so excited, i don't know what year it is, mileage, or even which specific model it is... I'm HOPING it is the one that already has the 17" wheels so it will be an easy supermoto conversion, but we'll see.

I'd also be carefull of disturbing the wiring in there, after I did mine I can only start it with the side stand up and theres no neutral light.

Seen some other thread where they replace a diode and loose wire in the harness about the same area as the carbs.
