Bought my first MZ Skorpion acouple months ago

I bought my first 1999 MZ Skorpion 660 a few months ago off of craigslist. At first i was kind of nervous because i never heard of one and i wasn't sure how it would go getting parts if i needed them. I haven't had a single problem with the bike and it runs great and i find i blow people away when i pull up on this bike. The only thing i'm having problems with it finding the original gauge cluster that goes with the bike i was hoping somebody could maybe point me in the right direction. Thank you for reading my post and i look forward to learning more about this bike on this website.

you will continue to have trouble with that. The first-series instruments, especially the tach, are not good, or rather not up to the beating they have to take due to the big single. MMB, the manufacturer will rebuild both.
The change to the smaller and technically very different clocks for the later MZs was a necessary change not done for appearance. I estimate that about 2/3 of the Skorpions in normal use have either a replacement tach or none at all.
none of the 4 I had retained their clocks for long. The speedo is mechanical and basically sound. The original tach is a coil instrument like most any voltmeter and simply too delicate for the vibes. A popular replacement is the mechanical tach from the Yamaha SR500. It is the ssme size and can be fit into the original casing. The XT/SRX bevel drive is a 1:1 fit. I have fit this to Skorpions. I have not used it myself but I did use a SRX mechanical tach on my racer.
Your best by for the money is a Scitsu tach, proven by the thousands on racers and driven directly from the minus pole of the ignition coil.

You will find that Bill is a treasure full of SOUNDinformation...he has done every imaginable thing to improve these bikes...as fo the tach,some use a digital from Acewell or Trail Tech...these are combo guages with speedo too....an alternative is also found from a Yamaha XS100 90's version I believe..someone on here has fitted one and it not only works,it looks good too..do a search on here...
As a side note,the tachs for the (I believe)pre 2000's are different from the later models...

My Skorp has turned over 31,000 miles now, still on her original and working perfectly instruments.
Tacho needle swings wildly at times but as anyone knows, the motors can blast past their redline safely anyway! :wink:
