Earlier this month I visited the Coupes Moto Legende at Dijon for the ninth year running. I think there was some previous discussion about this event on here, but at the risk of repeating myself I think it is an excellent week-end for anyone with an interest in older motorcycles and riding in France. I crossed from Portsmouth - Le Havre using DFDS which I think is the cheapest. The facilities on the boat are limited, but book a cabin and this is not a problem. I rode from Le-Havre - Dijon in one hit. I drew a straightish line on the map from Le havre - Dijon via Orleans, wrote the names of the main towns on a piece of paper and made it "without deviation or repetition" (a reference to Just a minute on BBC Radio 4 for the uninformed!). This is good combination of main roads and, after Orleans, some fantastic minor roads - good surfaces, fast bends, OMG bends , little traffic etc. etc.. You can camp in a field at the track (no facilities to speak of), or camp at a small site nearby at Darois (it's on t'internet). This is very run down with very basic facilities, but full of bikes and bikers enjoying themselves as only French Motards can. It gets a bit loud on occassions, but it's all innocent fun. Have a look at You Tube footage of the Coupes Moto Legende for a good flavour of the event. I went on my R1100S, as the Skorpion is having a SORN induced rest at present, but she will be back in action for a visit to the Belgian Classic TT at Gedinne in August (also on t'interwebthing). This is a great week-end break as it is in easy reach of the French channel ports.
Bonne route, mes amis!!

Went to see my mom a couple of weeks ago.
200 miles one way on the Natchez Trace from Nashville,TN to Tupelo, MS (ended trip in New Albany...stayed on the backroads).
Rode down my old college bus route through the Brice's Crossroads Civil War park area....aaahhh...nostalgia...
I doubt it got above 75F the whole day...wonderful time.

TT fortnight has just ended here on the Isle of Man. The mountain section of the course is one way for the duration & no speed limit. Scary fast. Took the Skorp out on the first morning (usually quiet) but someone had already totalled it & road closed for the morning. Bah!
Out again end of the week. Road clear but the bike developed a fueling problem and wouldn't go over 70mph Double bah!

Travelled to Whitby, Yorkshire via ferry for a 4 day charter fishing break this week on my Aprilia Shiver GT. Got there to be told all fishing cancelled due to bad forecast. Came home (in the rain) next day. 350 mile round trip for sod all.

Other than that, life is pretty sweet!

I took my Skorp out for a cruise with the Mini Cooper club, took the MZ as my Cooper is in my garage for repairs. Went form Salt Lake City Utah, up in to Idaho to the Lava Hot Springs for lunch and a dip in the hot springs. The 149 miles there was mostly highway droning, on the way back however, I found a few diversions to lean the MZ in to and turned the way back in to a back road twist festival. A couple Coopers tagged along for the fun. Well I found the maximum lean point of the Skorp, as I broke off the end of my left foot peg in a nice decreasing radius left with a spot gouged in to the pavement , see pics, and I still have about 3/8" of tire lean to go. Think I'll remove the stub on the right side and save that peg from the same demise.
The return trip turned in to about 215 miles of fun in the Idaho and Utah mountains. We all had a good time and no body was accosted by the Police or CRASHED!!!! Weather was a PERFECT 86(F), clear dry day. AND mostly I ride the Skorp around doing errands and to work daily.

Summer of 2008 I went North and turned Left. Rode from San Francisco to Deadhorse//Prudoe Bay Alaska and back. I took a dip in the Arctic Ocean. I believe there are some pictures on adventure riders. I may be the only individual to ever ride a 2002 MZ Scorpion Traveler ~300 miles North of the Arctic circle and the end of the road on our North American Continent. I went alone. That was best. I am still riding my `02 MZ and we are very familiar with each other by now. Great bike, sorry to see the factory close. In fact, I tried to order some body parts while in Fairbanks. SNAFU and when I got back 10 days later the factory was gone. Still need a couple pieces of plastic... rt. lower fairing and the black dashboard that mounts to the upper fairing/nose piece.

~ 9K miles RT in 27 days and far too many incredible experiences to much to write here just now.

I will urge all of you who feel the need to roam - take a trip like this. My experience is still being understood in 2013. I was 53 now almost 57. My next journey will be to Patagonia Chile' but not on the MZ. I almost have it back to good condition. Make no mistake, a ride to Alaska and back will stress your equipment to the max. Expect to replace tires, brakes, chains and sprockets along with some skin. You are guaranteed to meet some of the nicest most committed riders whom I have had the privilege to to ride and meet.

You've had a crap day at work. The boss sucks. And it's raining. But later the sun comes out, the traffic thins and peace breaks out worldwide because you can do this:
