I found this sensor available from a supplier in the UK: http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/fan-switch-9785c-m14-x-15-fansw4-3530-p.asp The standard MZ sensor is marked as 95/90, which infers that it switches on at 95 degrees C and switches off at 90 degrees. The one from CBS switches on at 97 degrees and off at 85, but I can't imagine that would cause a problem (how accurately do these work anyway?). Good part is that it costs £12 (plus VAT), about a third of the MZ price.

In reply to David's questions:
a/ In theory you only have to drain the radiator to just below the sensor, in practice this would be difficult to do. When you remove the bottom hose to drain the radiator, the water gushes out and it would be hard to put the hose back on to stop the flow. Better to just drain the radiator completely.

b/ When I replaced the sensor on my Skorpion (with one from an old bike) I just coated the threads with copper grease and used a new copper washer. I had bought a box of washers from Halfords marked 'Metric Copper Washers', and there were some of the correct size. As the bike has been to the Alps and back without leaking, I would say that this works.

Norman,
Is there any special procedure for refilling the cooling system after draining, just thought there might be as an expansion tank is used.
Will you be covering this as part of your skorpion servicing guide? I don't suppose any of this is covered in the XTZ service manual.
Thanks,

David.

David,
When changing my coolant,I just drain it all out, refill the radiator, then add coolant to the expansion tank
with the overflow hose connected to the radiator...easy,then run it...check the level in the coolant tank
top off as needed...

Hi David,
Basically draining and refilling is as Chip says. When I first did mine, After I'd drained the coolant out I refilled the radiator with plain water, ran the engine to warm it up, allowed it to cool, then drained the water out. I repeated this a couple of times until the water came out fairly clean. This is probably unnecessary, but I bought the bike used and didn't know its history, and it means that you know exactly what's in there.
I finally filled the radiator with a 50:50 mix of water and antifreeze (as per the instructions on the antifreeze bottle), and filled the expansion tank to the upper level (this will require approx 1.5 litres of coolant). I ran the engine again to warm it up, (you can see bubbles of air coming from the connecting pipe into the coolant in the expansion tank), allowed it to cool again, then topped up the expansion tank.
*****Note: where I live tap water is very low in minerals so is safe to use in radiators. In other parts of the world it may not. Check if you're in doubt********
I'll add a bit about coolant change to the service guide - all I've got to do now is finish writing it!!

when you says fans in this thread.. i assume you must mean the skorpion, as my baghira only has one, and i have never heard it ever come on.. it does work because i have shorted out the terminals, and the light comes on when i short the other terminal..

is there any reason a baghira only has one fan.. or has my other one fell off ????
I'm a schizophrenic so am I !!!!
