Front Master Cylinder Rebuild / Swap / Options?

Postby n8r » Mon Sep 16, 2013 12:22 am

New Black Panther owner here - really enjoying the bike. I've got a leaking front master cylinder - coming from the little bellows portion where the lever actuates the brake. Figuring I need a rebuild kit, not exactly sure if they exist or are easily attainable. What are my options here? Thanks

the levers for them are hard to find at least in the usa
i would change the whole thing
i have found no overhaul kit

where i live the kawasaki klr650 unit looks close
also some of the bmw models about 1980 look close
if you live near a moto guzzi dealer show it to them there is a bunch of odd bits from them that
are used on some mz bikes

Just to update this the issue w/ the MZ is it takes a 13mm master cylinder which isn't that common. With a fair amount of searching I stumbled upon this:

This guy swaps on just fine and I believe is purchased/used quite a bit by the older XS650 riders. I just did a first ride with it basically last night but it's functioning just fine and the brake light wiring wires up no problem.

I found another one on E-Bay for $50 with shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SINGLE-DISC-DIS ... 41&vxp=mtr. The lever is silver instead of black.

There really is no reason it has to be a 13mm.
1/2 inch is very easy to get.
Cool.
