Skorpion front brake caliper replacement

Postby mforza » Wed Sep 25, 2013 4:42 pm

I know this was discussed here before, I just cant find it :D
Looking for brake caliper that will replace the original Grimeca without major mods. Still using the original wheels and forks.
I know that Bill J. was talking about that but like I said I cant find it.
Help me out here please :)

Pretty sure this is the one you want. It's known as the P4 30/34 40mm and is scarce, but you can find them. This isn't as cheap as I've seen them in the past and make sure you buy the one for the right hand side. http://ducati-gowanloch.com/catalog/bre ... -3088.html

For the record, I replaced my master cylinder before replacing the caliper and, outside of racing, I just can't see where you'd need more power or control than the Grimeca caliper provides with a good pump. Then again, maybe my 50k mi unit is just one of those lucky few that came from an exceptional batch.

edfmaniac,
What master cylinder did you buy, and will it also fit a Baggie? Did it work with the brake light switch?

I have just done this with the caliper and master cylinder from a Cagiva Mito. They are fairly common on uk ebay. The only snag is that the master cylinder for that bike doesn't have a mirror mount and the reservoir is remote. I used a bar end mirror and mounted the reservoir on the clip on clamp.

Sorry, missed the part about brake light switch. I went down to my local bike shop and they let me look through their parts bins. Found a Magura brake light switch which fits the Cagiva lever and the MuZ loom. I've seen lots of these on Ebay too for about £5. I'm happy to compromise on the mirror for the feel of the Brembo master cylinder.

This thread should be a helpful reference. I believe I ended up with the 11mm, which at first feels kinda mushy, but ended up being a very linear response with plenty of power for a rider of my skill level. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5825&p=30000&hilit=brembo#p30000

That topic is good :) thx to BJ for that write up on the calipers :)

I do not know what master I will use yet. I think anything I can find that have separate reservoir for better fit with clip ons.

On my race bike i had problem with it as the one piece master/reservoir will hit the bolts on the clip ons and I could not twist it lower for better position. Also I had to go to radial master for the same reason. Did not test it yet so will see :)
The brake power looks to be realy strong so I might have to go very light on it before I get used to it.
But that's just my race bike. For the street bike I might use something different unles I decide to put it on the race track also :)
will try to post some pictures later.

PS: For the race bike I just mounted Honda CBR radial master. Im using 2 discs but with the power that thing creates I think I might have overkilled it :-D

I've fitted Brembo master cylinder and caliper to my Skorpion. Details here: http://youcanttouronasingle.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/skorpion-front-brake-modification.html

I have a 660 baggy 2001 and need to know how to find a rear brake caliper that works on that bike. The Grimeca caliper is shot so I need to replace it with one that works and fits in its place. Please advice

The easy answer to the question is to leave the master cylinder and change the caliper for one from a Cagiva Mito. Not expensive and you get nice feel and outstanding stopping.

Well that is what I have done, Brembo MC on the rear of course. Check out Bill J this is one of his things.

Hi everyone.

Norman Wade, based on your post via "touronasingle" , I've ordered a brembo front caliper (40mm between the mounting bolts)/master cylinder/lever/etc. from a Mito 125 in Europe. Thank you for the suggestion.

I fully acknowledge that I've bought these parts without asking some questions first, but here goes.

I intend to use this on my race bike. Are there any suggestions/thoughts/concerns about using this set up? Can anyone recommend pads for this setup? Is it a good set up for racing or are the performance gains limited over stock?

Any suggestions on race pads? I've used these in the stock bike based on a recommendation by Gordon Hamilton and love them: DP Brakes RDP Race Brake Pads.

Thanks guys.

Charles

PS. I'm looking for an aluminum rear subframe and race plastics if you have suggestions.
