Skorpion air filter

Postby Srinath » Mon Nov 04, 2013 10:40 am

Has anyone looked for a good air filter substitute for the skorp - I have been through many misadventures with this.
OK The paper turned into a shredded mess ...
The attempts to remove it were not that succesful unless I ripped the mesh, which I promptly did.
Then I put a piece of foam in that, and on the last ride on the 2001 bike the mesh ripped further and sucked the foam into the airbox ... thankfully it didn't go through the carbs ...
OK so the solution was to find a better filter that will fit in the nice clean filter hole and not need the mesh.

This fit the bill - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Briggs-Strat ... c=17588969

And its even cheaper via mail order.
The blue foam in the filter should be comepletely cut out in the ends where the pleats are. There is no mesh under that, cut it close on the pleats side.
On the edge where you get the flat face, non pleated paper, you cut it @ the spot where the step is in the blue foam. Scissors are fine, the material is soft foam.

Then it can be tightly stuffed into the filter frame. Sorry I dont have pics of it, but it fits like it was made for it.

Yea I should have been more careful cleaning the filter frame. OK yes.

Cool.

NO its the same as the one for 660 cc bikes and not sold in the usa

the one for the rotax powered bikes is same as the r 1200c bmw chopper and requires a home made adapter
thats easy to make

Ok cool. The filter is pretty nice with the way I modded it.
I will try to get pics of it when I get to it next. Paper is cleaner than foam IMHO, though foam is infinitely re-useable and very very very cheap. I guess foam is a better option cos it can be kept clean with no effort/$$$ But with the ripped up mesh it wasn't an option for me unless I wanted to fish bits of foam out the carb orifices after every ride.

Cool.
