Replacement speedometer for skorpion tour?

Postby FALAKAR » Sat Nov 23, 2013 3:14 am

Does anyone know of any non-factory replacement speedometers (i assume a factory one would be harder to find then aftermarket or used from another bike?) that will swap onto the skorpion tour? My bike is actually a '01 sport cup model converted to the round tour style headlight in case that matters, i put tour in the title because im looking for that style and not the sport style. Preferably a simple round black one with a chrome trim ring but i wont go getting to far ahead of myself :-D . I guess all i need to know to match it up with another one is the ?speedometer drive ratio? as well as the front wheel size? Is that right? From searching around ive read on here that the ratio is 1:2.44, is that correct? It looks like a bicycle or digital speedo would be another option as well but i kind of want the classic round style but am open to suggestions on these too and pictures would be great if anyone has any kind of non factory speedometer fitted on your skorpion. Oh yeah if you have suggestions for a tach i would like to hear those as well but i would be ok with just having the speedometer for now. I saw another similar thread on here but it was pretty old so i figured id make new one.

Most jap bikes have black background speedo's ... But I have looked @ GS500 guage clusters and thought it may be possible to swap the guts as well as the entire thing.
Cool.

I could go for either black or white for the speedo background color (i assume your talking about the face of the gauge with the needle and numbers?) That would be cool if i could use a speedo off a gs500 it seems like it would be easy enough to find and its got the nice simple, classic, round look that i want, maybe a hair too big though but id still like to fix one on there right now. Do you know if its the same ratio as the skorpion? If that speedo does happen to work it will complement the gs500e headlight that i swapped on there (from your recommendation).

Oh no, you're a repeat offender then ... :-D

I dunno, I will not be able to look for a few weeks though ...
Do you have the MZ guage ? you're trying to replace - I know the GS parts from memory, put a pic of the MZ guage especially the drive in the back and light bulb fitting, I will know when I look at it.

Cool.

there are round digital units available...Acewell comes to mind.
I just use a Sigma BC400 bicycle unit...but I do have a trailtech Vapor ready to install.
Look up Electrosport as they carry the round ones too...

There is a few people who did those digital dash things with GS500's. I cant say I like the look of them.
The nicest look IMHO is the 2 round guages set symmetically like it was on the traveller I think (I am confused with the MZ model names)

The GS500 guage set looks good as well IMHo, very strong cos the top plate is steel - it has a good ability to stand a crash or 2. The housing will break, but those are easy to replace and not that $$$ - used to be $30 ...
The MZ guage cluster I think will accept the GS guage - I will know in a few weeks. I ahve both sitting in my driveway, just I had foot surgery couple months ago and cant do this work just yet.
