baghira kickstand strength question

Postby shoebox1 » Sat May 03, 2014 12:42 pm

my 98 enduro here is new to me and pretty tall. im 5.9 260+ big guy but I cant throw a leg over the bike to get on! I mount it like a horse! left foot on left peg and up and over. no problem. when im on the bike im almost flat footed. the suspension settles pretty good. and getting off is a normal affair but I drag my right leg off the seat. if I were more limber it wouldn't be an issue. my question is do you think the kickstand can take the weight of me getting on the bike? it looks fairly strong.. if it breaks im going down and looking stupid doing it! might have to fab up an aftermarket center stand perhaps?

I get on with my foot on the ground, but use the same technique with the foot peg to get off mine, and I weigh 240 lbs. The kick stand hasn't broken or bent yet. I also loosened the spring on the shock, lowered the forks till they almost hit the handle bars, and cut an inch off the rear subframe to lower the seat some more. Cutting that also made the seat more level, as mine was tilted towards the front. Then I had to cut the kick stand off about an inch, and I welded a flat plate to the end to keep it from digging into the dirt. It took a while of playing around with things, but an inch or two makes a big difference in being able to get on and off.

I thought about lowering the bike but I like it tall too! I like the pad on the end idea
