gear lever availibility

Hi,

Anyone know if standard MZ baghira gear lever is still available...?

and if so what sort of money ?

snapped mine tonight and got stranded on m32 in bristol on the fast lane stuck in 5th gear had to get recovered home...

lever snapped off at the bend near the frame... foned grahams original not available so will have to source another type

anyone got a pattern part that will fit, or an alternative i can use to go straight to the gear shaft and get rid of the linkage ?

yamaha xt500 may fit till you can find one
but 1 up and then all the rest down is the shift pattern
it makes it gp style

couple days and you will have it mastered
some aftermarket levers are adjustable reach also
and boy does it get rid of the sloppy play in the reversing linkage

I got a YZ250 lever as couldnt stand the though of being without the bike but its far too long...

I was sort of hoping my local motcross place may have had a book with patterns of shifters in there and i could match something up... the YZ250 item looks great but it means i am shifting with my toes unless i move my foot so its almost slipping off the pegs... i really need something shorter..

I prefer the feel of it through direct to the shaft.. its much better than all that sloppy linkage..

anyone know if the yamaha spline pattern is the same as other manufacturers ?

Seem to remember someone else on this forum having the same problem sourcing a replacement. I am sure their solution was to use one of a Yamaha 250/350 LC. Sorry cant find their original posting to be certain.
Baghiras/Mastiffs have used 2 types of lever the original ones were steel (easily weldable), later ones cast aluminium. Which type did you have?

i had the alloy one... well did have its somewhere on the carriageway on the M32... Grrrrr

i think i pop down to my local moto x place and see if he got a shorter version of what i have... theres got to be a better lever.. the apico is real nice quailty item too... was thinking of drilling it and putting a fixed peg on it... i just been around the block on it, and it feels so much more direct then the previous linkage setup...

I'm looking for a replacement lever also. I think the thread you're referring to was someone getting a CB250 set to fit. There was also a suggestion that the Yam 250/350 LC may work. It doesn't, I tried this morning

The linkage doesn`t change the direction of the shift pattern as i see it, but puts the gear lever end in the right position relative to the footrest to get the leverage required to actuate for the average sized boot.
It looks like you are looking for a lever about 15mm shorter than the original to avoid the engine case and give adequate toe room.
I`m surprised Yamaha use different splined shaft sizes for different models.
I think you are going to be very lucky to find something`off the shelf`that ticks all the boxes.
The gearchange on my GasGas is much sweeter than the MZ,mainly i feel,to it being`direct`.
I think i would start off with something like this(Which looks too long)cut to length,and attach your`end bit`where you need it.-

i did measure the number of splines on my lever setup and it was 21, i then measuerd he number of splines on the apico one i got for a YZ250, and it has more like 25 splines but the pitch of the splines are the same. so just goes to show the number of splines does not matter its the pitch

i hoping to go down to my moto x place tomorrow, possibly with the bike and see if he can match it up. i hoping that maybe a smaller bike like a yz80 suitable for a smaller child may have a smaller length lever for a smalller foot... its just a matter of lining up the splines, my mate has a xt660 tenere the new shape and i may be able to get a closer look at that too...

i prefer to get rid of the linkage now as it definitely is a more direct less sloppy shift direct to the gearbox shaft....

hope i sort something soon...
