Hi Alex,
Sorry to give you some anxiety about the tyres but as the previous post mentioned 2 years is more than a bit early to change the tyre and as has just been said it depends where the bike is housed it is of course the UV that's the problem and your area climate etc, anyway, I wont prattle on Alex, take care Alan.

checked the rear tyre last night, no sign of any DOT number.
It is a Bridgestone Mag Mopus made in Japan, looks fine, no cracks, great tread but maybe it is quite old.
Just hate to throw out a good tyre but then maybe it looks better than it is, if it was my car I would keep it but being a bike..better change it.

I have been lucky enough not to have bad encounters whilst using old tyres on my bikes, however:


A year ago I was driving home a 1980 Buick LeSabre I had bought from London, it had 4x old tyres from 25+ years ago (had been in storage since '90), and one of the tyres blew on the motorway. Thankfully there was the original spare, with probably the original tyre on that too. But because it is kept in the boot it is still maluable like from new. However, thankfully I didn't even feel the blow out, I was just looking for a helicopter


My Peugeot 205 also has a spare however it is kept under the car in a rack. I had that tyre changed one day and the tyre split whilst in the machine.. The tyre was dated 1991 and could have even been an original that came with the car.

here in West Virginia USA i am about 250 miles west of Washington DC
the tire shops for cars have done away with there USED tire racks
and motorcycle shops seem to have only trail bike tires as used and they usually look almost as new

The same here.. I enquired in various tyre shops and most do not bother keeping used any more, they don't see the 'risk' of being the company that sold a used tyre is appropriate any more, unfortunately. I would still continue to buy used tyres all the time otherwise, as they are sincerely a lot cheaper, and I don't travel many miles in my car and less so on the bike.

the fellow next door had 4 used almost new.
there on my vw bug now
they came off his step daughters wrecked car and were only 2 weeks old
thats the only used i have found in several years

they will be replaced before i go to Colorado next summer
they were a low priced set from Walmart
i have a cargo trailer that uses the same size so they will go there till there toast
a good set for the vw 2004 vw bug tdi is about 600 usd

seems like when i buy something any more they show up with a Bank lorry and haul the bill fold away

Anyone here use Mitas tyres ?

Had some on the ETZ 250 when I bought it and I have kept using them.

Not expensive and work for me.

P.S. Using standard tyre sizes front and rear - larger is not necessarily better so I am told.
