Etz 250 removing clutch cover casing

im just trying to get access to the crank oil seal on this side but I can’t get the side cover off any more than 5mm. The thing is stuck around the clutch frontal area somewhere as the rear of the casing has more movement. Any ideas?

Have you removed the nut/tacho drive from the end of the crankshaft? Its easily overlooked.

Yes, the 22mm nut with the spiral drive on the end is off, so is the giant circlip and the circular plate with the three screws. The clutch cable assembly is also off. Also off is the oil pump which didn’t need to be, the kick start is still on but that is meant to be left intact. I don’t want to use force on the casing by prying for the obvious reason

Beats me! Maybe the bearing is seized on the shaft, try tapping the inner race. Its unlikely, I admit, but what else is there?

There is a bearing on view from the casing front Does that mean the bearing is supposed to break loose or does it stay with the other sub assembly behind. If it does not and it’s seized on then that’s the answer?

The entire clutch actuation mech, including the bearing normally stays in the cover when it is removed. I have taken off a few covers over the years and this has always been the case. The bearing usually slides off easy. I don't know if it is possible to remove the cover and leave the assembly on the shaft. I am not a mechanic and am unable to say how you should proceed, but good luck with it.

That’s it I think. The bearing is locked solid and probably where I get my 5mm of movement from. I’ll shock it to death!! Thanks Dave for that. Eric

I've just checked an old engine and I don't think it is possible to leave the assembly on the shaft. I believe they must come off with the cover.

Yes it was the bearing!! And video watched! It was seized on the shaft so I ‘air chiseled it a rude awakening’ !! It flew off now I just need to make a clutch extractor!!

Excellent. The replacement bearing is C3 type, most of the rest are C4. The £10 MZ clutch pullers are alright, but if you can make your own better still. Just don't use a universal puller as they can distort the clutch (apparently).
