Engine Screws...The penny drops!

I often check the official MZ parts book for the correct part number or size. I have often noticed that many screws are called "cylinder head screws" Up to a few seconds ago I have always thought it was a bad translation as they are usually NOT cylinder head screws at all. But then, just now, realised that the "cylinder head" part describes the type of driving end part of the screw and in this case we use the term "cheese head"...it does not mean cylinder head as top of the engine....Doh!... ...What a plonker
It makes me wonder how many others have thought the same?....Nobody? ... Oh well, there's always got to be one...

The screws are called: Cylinder screws, which describes the form of the head of the screw.
In the spare part catalogues they call them cylinder head screws.
This is due to the little practice in speaking english the guys in the GDR had

Searched for pics on both 'cheese head screws' & 'cylinder screws', and on either you get a broad mix. So I, and my search engine, still don't know what they are. Ah well, an ignorance to cherish.

Hi Puffs the weird description is in the official MZ parts book. It is only when I saw the term "cylinder head screws" on a diagram that was not engine related the "penny dropped" and I realised what was being said. In fact there is nothing wrong with the term/description*. It is accurate but simply conflicts with an engine part name. Here is one such page...Part numbers 3 & 4: (click on image to enlarge)

Now maybe you can see why I made the thread?....Although I was humorously mocking myself, there was a chance that it would also help others who might have been baffled by the odd description
* I suppose it would be more correct to call them cylinder headED screws

However I have never worked out what EM, BM, CM etc. means...Perhaps Guesi knows?

where i live there called Phillips head and usually changed to
Allen head so you can get them out the next time

the name is a problem because almost every one you talk to uses a different name

Yep. I/we would call them cheese head screws.
A cheese head screw is one with a cylindrical head like a traditional cheese. I think something has got a bit lost in translation. -

Not the dreaded phillips with a cross...

EM (as in EM 251) is the engine designation. 'Engine' = 'Motor'. Guesi?
