And also things that sound plausable and even true, but potentially unfounded..
I've got a 30n2.5 and 30n3 carb and I have not drilled out the pilot yet.
If your idle is running a bit high after a speed run, it's possible that you need to enrichen the fuel screw- you do this by turning the screw anti-clockwise (to let more petrol through). Your model of carb will have two screws- one being the pilot jet adjustment screw, and the other being the slide screw (which controls the air flow) you're probably thinking about that, which indeed can change the idle speed, by increasing the air intake (clockwise) of the screw as you're raising the main slide. For idle mixture, you'd want the pilot/idle/fuel screw.
