Baghira rear wheel bearings

Postby keithcross » Mon Sep 26, 2005 5:56 pm

Hi Guys

I changed the rear wheel bearings in my Bahira Street Moto tonight as they were showing a slight grittyness on the wheel balancer while haveing a new tyre fitted.
I got my trusty MZ spares manual out to look up the bearing number and found on checking both the manual and the rear wheel that the manual lists the wrong bearing number. The bike has 6004 2RS bearings fitted not 6204 2RS as listed. Just thought this might be of use.

David

I have just checked the MZ parts manual and it gives the following bearing sizes

Rear wheel (wire type) 17 & 18 inch wheel bearings the same 6204 2RS, part number 9013188000. Bearing fitted to my 2001 model 6004 2RS.
Sprocket carrier bearing 6304 2RS part number 9014277000
Rear 17" alloy rear wheel rear whel bearing quoted as 6203 2RS part number 9013188000
Front wheel (wire type) 17 & 21 inch wheels have same bearings 6003 2RS MZ part number 9014272000
Front wheel ally 6004 2RS. MZ part number 9013162000

The difference between the rear wheel bearing sizes in millimeters are

type OD ID width
6004 42 20 12
6204 47 20 14
6304 52 20 15
6203 40 17 12
6003 35 17 10

Hopefully the above info may help someone and I will check the other fitted bearings when I take the wheels out next time.

time to clean lub and repack on both of mine
and the saxon tour needs a clean and inspection of the chain cover
as well as a rear sprocket inspection

hope it doesnt cut to much in to work on the r75/2 conversion\

my mate had a bash at sandblasting the rim today, and most of the loose paint is off, but it really needs to be done again he thinks the grit needs changing in the blaster... anyway i have removed the one oil seal, and the one bearing on one side, as i will be replacing these anyway... i can get dimensions of these... i having a bit of trouble with the other bearing and suspect i may have to get it pressed out... grrrrr

so next step source the bearings and seals in readiness, i have ordered a sample set of spokes from Grahams motorcycles, was hoping to have got them today, but should get them tomorrow, if these are ok.. i will be getting the rest, of the spokes from grahams...

have a day tomorrow running about dropping off stuff the disk to be ground, blasting the wheel picking up the bearings,,, and hopefully by the beginning of next week i will be able to get the hub painted and dropped off to gerrard for trueing

I will be assembling the wheel myself using my superior youtube knowledge...

ha ha..

Nowadays I tend to get all my bearings and seals online. Even managed to find some supposedly unobtainable bearings once I measured the originals up.

well then here we go... busy day today....

almost completed making my trueing jig... pics are being uploaded to photobucket as we speak...

my new bearings arrived today courtesy of bearing boys.... SAm is the contact if you ever need to use them come well recommended.. I doubt they have even recieved my wrong sized ones that i sent back yet..... theres trust for you... not many companies do that....!!!!

also received my Kaefer DTI courtesy of Ebay 99p plus £3.00 postage... reads 0-3mm to buy new is well over £70 top quality piece of kit and unused condition... pics later...

just got to find a way of holding the dti... need some sort of clamp Any ideas ? Anyone ?

heres some pics

Image

the wheel is supported on some spare televison stand MDF legs i had spare with my TV stand... the temporary spindle is a extending shower curtain pole and fits the bearing perfectly... and the outside part of the spindle is the outside part of the curtain pole... it may be good enough for trueing the wheel but may need a better shaft for balancing we'll see....

Image

also notice my new kitchen extractor fitted to the wall surplus to requirements in our recent kitchen fit.. new / old worktop fitted to workbench too.. and a much needed tidy up...

kaefer DTI 99p off Ebay... Result....

I think i would have used the bike itself as my jig, more potential places for clamping on a dial indicator or indicator rod as well. :)

dont really want to be working on the floor though.. once it all setup it will be fine.. the mark 2 version will be better... the wheel doesnt have to be solidly clamped... so long as it will run around the key is to getting the spokes tightened in the right order...
