Seasonal advice

Postby dickl » Tue Nov 19, 2024 9:55 am

There I was taking the fairing lowers off the Traveller so that I could get at the oil filter(s) etc to do an oil change. I was planning a warm up run rather than let the bike chug away on the driveway. My next door neighbour asked me if I was getting ready to put the bike away for the winter; he went off shaking his head and rolling his eyes when I told him I plan on riding all year round (on the dry days of course). By co-incidence when I had been for my run (60 mile round the block) and finished the oil change, I was sitting by the fire with a warm cuppa looking through some old copies of Motorcycle Mechanics. The November 1964 edition had some "Winter wisdom hints" ; my favourites are (and I quote) :
1 "In really cold and bitter weather, prevent this (getting cold that is) by putting layers of newspaper across your chest"
2 "Going for a long run in the rain? Wrap any personal belongings up in a polythene or plastic bag (so far so good). "A dry cigarette is very welcome after a wet couple of hours"!
3 " That stone -age dodge of wrapping a towel round your neck is still good". I thought towels were intended to soak up water.
Hope these tips of useful; ride safe and enjoy the ride!

My boots leak, when I know I'm going to be riding in it all day, I keep supermarket plastic bags so as to put each foot in one over my socks before puting foot in boot.

MotoX boots are a taken (with a plastic bag liner in each. As mentioned earlier in thread) Derry boots, are warm and great. Well until you crash. Nothing can beats a proper full tuck in type fairing.
